25. The Duffy binding protein as a key target for a Plasmodium vivax vaccine: lessons from the Brazilian Amazon
Plasmodium vivax infects human erythrocytes through a major pathway that requires interaction between an apical parasite protein, the Duffy binding protein (PvDBP) and its receptor on reticulocytes, the Duffy antigen/receptor for chemokines (DARC). The importance of the interaction between PvDBP (region II, DBPII) and DARC to P. vivax infection has motivated

26. Larval control of Anopheles (Nyssorhinchus) darlingiusing granular formulation of Bacillus sphaericus in abandoned gold-miners excavation pools in the Brazilian Amazon Rainforest
INTRODUCTION: Use of a Bacillus sphaericus based mosquito larvicide was evaluated as an intervention for malaria vector control at a mining site in Amapá, Brazil. Impacts on larval and adult densities of the primary vector Anopheles darlingi were measured over the course of a 52 week study period.METHODS: In Calçoene, State of Amapá, gold mining activity

27. Anatomy of predator snail Huttonella bicolor, an invasive species in Amazon rainforest, Brazil (Pulmonata, Streptaxidae)

28. Cenários futuros para a Amazônia: interações entre o desmatamento, as mudanças climáticas, o ecossistema natural e os sistemas agrícolas / Future scenarios for the Amazon: interactions between deforestation, climate change, natural ecosystem, and agricultural systems

29. Resposta do clima amazônico ao desmatamento progressivo da Amazônia e do Cerrado / Response of the Amazonian climate to progressive deforestation of the Amazon and Cerrado
There is a clear shift happening in the physical environment of the Amazon forest, where human intervention has intensified dramatically during the last half of the twentieth century. Recent studies suggest that changes in regional climate caused by local deforestation have the potential to cause parts of the Amazon to cross an ecological tipping point: a cr

Soil fluxes of N2O were determined over one year in montane tropical rainforest of southeastern Brazil with average annual rainfall of 2.8 m. Annual mean (± standard deviation) and median N2O fluxes were 3.0 ± 1.4 and 2.7 µg N m-2 h-1, respectively, is 5-10 times lower than mean values reported in literature for tropical rainforest soils in the Amazon bas

31. Lecythidaceae Poit. in the Tupé Sustainable Development Reserve, Manaus, Brazil
Lecythidaceae is the family of the Brazil nut, and comprises about 300 species belonging to 17 genera with pantropical distributions. One hundred and twenty-two species belonging to nine genera are distributed throughout Brazil, demonstrating its greatest diversity in the Amazon rainforest where Lecythidaceae is also one of the most abundant families. It is

32. Monopolização do território e carvoejamento na Amazônia: a produção do carvão vegetal nos assentamentos e acampamentos de reforma agrária e nas carvoeiras tradicionais de Rondon do Pará / Monopolization of the territory and charcoal production in Amazon: the charcoal production in settlements and camps of agrarian reform and in the traditional charcoal production areas in Rondon do Pará-PA
As indústrias siderúrgicas constituem a materialização do capital, car

33. Distribution of soil organic carbon fractions in old-growth forests in the Amazon Basin: the role of soil properties, leaf litter quality and climate / Distribuição das frações do carbono orgânico nos solos de florestas maduras na Bacia Amazônica: o papel das propriedades do solo, da qualidade da liteira e do clima
Soil organic carbon (SOC) stability is a function of environmental and biological conditions such as edaphic factors, climate and organic matter quality. Considering that a wide variation occurs in all these parameters across Amazonia, one could expect that there should be systematic variations in SOC fractions across the area. Understand the processes invol

35. Comparative wood anatomy of 64 tree species ocurring in the Amazon Rainforest in the state of Pará / Anatomia comparada do lenho de 64 espécies arbóreas de ocorrência natural na floresta tropical amazônica no estado do Pará
