1. Metal-Supported Niobium Catalysts Investigation for Conversion of Bio-Renewable Glycerol to Organic Compounds
The glycerol oxidative dehydration to organic compounds, especially acrolein and acrylic acid, was studied over vanadium, molybdenum, and cobalt oxides supported on niobium oxide and niobium phosphate catalysts. At 300 °C, the glycerol conversion was 100% over all catalysts tested, and acrolein was the main product observed, without significant deactivation

2. Biphasic 0.8BaTiO3/0.2Ni(1-x)CoxFe2O4 nanopowders by in situ sol-gel synthesis
Abstract Nanopowders of the 0.8BaTiO3/0.2Ni(1-x)CoxFe2O4 (x=0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1) were synthesized by the in situ sol-gel method using poly(acrylic acid) (PAA1800) as a chelating agent. The synthesis developed using PAA1800 ensured the simultaneous crystallization of two phases. The results provided a reliable method for producing biphasic nanopowders i

3. Blue Glow Sticks: Cinnamic Acids and Arylacrylonitriles with Liquid-Crystalline Properties and Highly Fluorescent
Five new π-conjugated chromophores derived from acrylic acid and acrylonitrile were synthesized and their thermal and photophysical behaviors were analyzed. They were designed and synthesized through Knoevenagel condensations between arylacetylenebenzaldehydes and a methylene group activated from cyanoacetic and malonic acids. The characterization of the ta

4. SELECTIVE SEPARATION OF Mn(II) AND Cd(II) AS WELL AS REGENERATION OF POLYMER VIA SHEAR INDUCED DISSOCIATION COUPLING WITH ULTRAFILTRATION
Abstract The selective separation of Mn(II) and Cd(II) as well as regeneration of the complexing agent were conducted by shear induced dissociation coupling with ultrafiltration (SID-UF), and the copolymer of maleic acid and acrylic acid (PMA) was used as complexing agent. At the optimal complexation conditions, pH 6 and P/M (mass ratio of polymer to metal i

5. Sulfonated Styrene-Acrylic Acid Copolymers with pH-Indicator Property
In this study, a polymer pH-indicator was synthesized by sulfonation of poly(styrene-co-acrylic acid) with concentrated sulfuric acid. The synthesized polymer pH-indicator exhibited pH-responsive color changes in aqueous solutions, being purple in alkaline medium (pH < 4), whereas yellow in acidic medium (pH > 9). The sulfonation process extent and polymer c

6. Toughening of bio-PE upon addition of PCL and PEgAA
Abstract Researches of polymer blends based on biological and biodegradable polymers appear as a viable alternative to develop environmentally friendly materials. Therefore, the aim of this research was to produce compounds made with biological polyethylene, i.e., Biopolyethylene, Bio-PE, added to the biodegradable Polycaprolactone (PCL) and functionalized b

7. Effect of hydrofluoric acid concentration and etching time on resin-bond strength to different glass ceramics
Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the hydrofluoridric acid (HF) concentration and time of acid conditioning on bond strength of three glass ceramics to a resin cement. Thus, fifty blocks (10 mm x 5 mm x 2 mm) of each ceramic (LDCAD: IPS e.max CAD; LCAD: IPS Empress CAD and LDHP: IPS e.max Press) were made and embedded in acr

8. Coating of urea granules by in situ polymerization in fluidized bed reactors
Abstract The main objective of the present work is to produce and characterize urea granules coated with polymers prepared with aqueous solutions of acrylic acid and glycerol. Both coating and drying of urea granules were performed in a fluidized bed reactor. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analyses indicated the presence of poly(acrylic acid) and ac

9. Effect of disinfection techniques on physical-mechanical properties of a microwave-activated acrylic resin
Abstract The effects of disinfection by microwave irradiation and immersion in peracetic acid on the physical-mechanical properties of a microwave-activated acrylic resin were evaluated. Specimens of acrylic resin were divided into a control group (specimens not disinfected) and 2 test groups subjected to one disinfection method: microwave irradiation at 85

10. Effect of different bonding protocols on degree of monomer conversion and bond strength between orthodontic brackets and enamel
Abstract The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of different surface treatments and polymerization protocols on the bond strength of brackets to enamel, and the degree of conversion of the bonding agents. 120 bovine crowns were embedded in acrylic resin blocks and sanded. Next, the blocks were randomly assigned into 12 groups. Metal br

11. Preparation, Characterization and Photostability of Nanocomposite Films Based on Poly(acrylic acid) and Montmorillonite
Polyacrylic acid (PAA)/clay mineral (SWy-1) nanocomposites were prepared by intercalation in solution and their photostability was evaluated. For the nanocomposite films containing 5, 10 and 20 wt % in SWy-1 mass occurred intercalation along with some clay exfoliation, while for PAA/30%SWy-1, the intercalation of PAA chains into the clay interlayers was obse

12. Bond strength between a polymer-infiltrated ceramic network and a composite for repair: effect of several ceramic surface treatments
Abstract: The effects of several ceramic surface treatments on bond strength of a polymer-infiltrated ceramic network and resin composite as repair material were evaluated. CAD-CAM blocks of a polymer-infiltrated ceramic network (Vita Enamic) were sliced and subjected to aging process, followed by embedding in acrylic resin. The bonding/repair area was treat
