RESUMO

Plasma treatments or chitosan biopolymer treatment can affect only the fiber surface, thus improving hydrophobic characteristics and reducing the formation of static electricity, and consequently these treatments may improve industrial processes. Given that, the objective of this study is the application of physical and/or chemical surface treatments on nylon 66 fabric by plasma and / or chitosan, and to evaluate the influence of these pre- treatments on the chemical properties and surface of treated fabric. Samples of nylon 66 fabric were treated with plasma in a direct current reactor using as gas of plasma O2 and N2. The treatment with chitosan was carried out using a solution 1,0 g/L in a relation bath of 1:20 under constant agitation to 60C for 60 minutes. In addition, other experiments were conducted in different time conditions and different chitosan concentration. The fabrics were impregnated in a foulard of laboratory and, then dried in the air. Some fabric samples were treated with chitosan previously to plasma. The treatments were evaluated through scan electronic microscopy (SEM) for measures of moisture by capillarity, swelling degree, bursting strength, formation of peeling and surface change. Acid dye was used to determine the percentage of exhausted baths, the value of color intensity (K/S) of colored fabric, in addition to tests of colorfastness. With respect to the swelling degree, all the treatments show an increase in the percentage of water absorbed by the fabrics. However, the test of moisture by capillarity showed that only the sample treated with plasma or plasma / chitosan presented a significant improvement in moisture time, thus indicating an increase in water affinity. There wasnt a decrease in the fabric resistance nor an increase in the tendency to form peeling after the treatments. The SEM analyses showed the formation of a rougher surface if compared non-treated samples. As for percentage of exhaustion, all the treated and dyed samples presented a slight improvement in the exhaustion dyeing bath if compared to non-treated samples, mainly in the presence of chitosan. There wasnt an influence of the treatments on the colorfastness tests and on the K/S value of dyed fabrics measured by remission spectrophotometer
