RESUMO

Maintenance area has striven for new work methods as an approach to support the growing demand of expansions and diversification in national Steelmaking Production. In this context, it has searched an increase of equipment lifetime and fault analysis through the employment of tools which have been, up to this time, more commonly used in the field of project development, consequently bringing not only benefits for maintenance, but also making possible the evolution in development of metallurgical equipment. The aim of this work was the study of a methodology for application of numerical simulation tools in maintenance area of a steelmaking plant. The basic flow of this methodology study pondered a technical and financial feasibility analysis of the application, and so determining how, when and where it may be applied (cost/benefit relationship). The methodology can be used as preventive (increase of lifetime), corrective (fault analysis) forms as well as in the project development (feasibility analysis). This methodology study and application were carried out based on a real case analysis that was recognized in the Steel Shop of ArcelorMittal Monlevade, through the operation evaluation of the oscillator system of Continuous Casting Machine. Some characteristics that classified this choice were observed, such as the existence of a historic on the equipment under observation, the readiness of information acquisition, its criticality for the productive process and its constructive way that enables the application of several distinctive simulation techniques. Two software programs were used for the development of this work; one of them for 3D modelling and the other for numerical simulation tool application.
