RESUMO

Objective: To assess the knowledge of dentists from Brasília, Federal District - DF, Brazil about Evidence-Based Dentistry - EBD. Methodology: Federal District dentists were sampled at random, based on the professionals registration number at the Regional Council of Dentistry. A questionnaire, validated in the Portuguese language, was mailed or e-mailed to the sampled dentists. Descriptive statistics were obtained and forward logistic regression was performed to determine whether it was possible to explain the occurrence of correct answers on the concept of Evidence-Based-Practice Results: 100 questionnaires were obtained. Regarding the main concepts of EBD, 66%, 30% and 21% of the sample correctly defined Critical Appraisal, Systematic Literature Review and Evidence-Based Practice, respectively. 68% of the professionals affirmed that they have never heard about The Cochrane Collaboration. Nevertheless, despite of the lack of knowledge regarding EBD, the large majority (97%) of dentists responded that they were interested in learning more about it. Conclusion: Dentists have little knowledge about EBD and its related concepts. Dental education is not being able to, through EBD, qualify professionals who are able to critically and scientifically evaluate the growing amount of literature available.
