RESUMO

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a wide term, it includes a group of nonprogressive, but usually mutable, motor disorders which mean the effects of early cerebral injuries or malformation occurred in child neurodevelopment. Malnutrition is frequent in children with CP. Present research studied nutritional status in 114 children (2 to 12.9 years) with CP, from the gastropediatrics, orthopedics and neuropediatrics outpatient clinics in a School Hospital. Methods include measurement of nutritional anthropometric indicators: weight, height, estimate stature, body mass index (BMI), triceps skinfold thickness(TST) , mid upper arm muscled area (AMA), mid upper arm fat area (AFA). Anthropometric indicators were analyzed considering their relation to gender, socioeconomic level, type of CP, numbers of hospital admissions, previous pneumonia episodes, ability to eat independently, deglutition disorder and previous nutritional orientation. Studied children presented malnutrition (Z score <- 2) identified in indicators by age: 50.9% of the children in relation to weight; 38.6 % to height; 45.6 % to BMI; 30.7% to TST; 29.8 % to AMA end 35.09 % to AFA. Anthopometric status was worse when it was associated with deglutition dysfunction. Multiple linear regression, found out that the most important varible influencing the anthropometric scores was deglutition disorder
