1. Instantons in curved spaces / Instantons em espaços curvos
In this work we study instanton solutions of the Yang-Mills theory in Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordstrom spaces with gauge group SU(2).Instantons are solutions to the classical field equations of Yang-Mills theory defined in a space with Riemannian (positive de finite)metric with finite action. We begin with a review of the geometric setting of Yang-Mills

2. Aspectos não perturbativos das teorias de Yang-Mills no calibre abeliano maximal / Non-perturbative aspects of the Yang-Mills theories in the maximal Albelian gauge
In this, we study the nonperturbative effects associated to the presence of the horizon and to the condensation of local dimension two operators in an Eucledean SU(2)Yang-Mills theory quantized in the maximal Abelian gauge. Such effects are introduced in a way to preserve the properties of renormalizability and locality of the theory. The comparison with the

3. Estudo do espectro das massas de blingagem de cor em QDC na rede a temperatura finita. / Study of the spectrum of color screening masses in lattice QCD to finite temperature.
In this work we study the spectrum of the lowest screening masses for Yang-Mills theories on the lattice. We used the gauge groups SU(2) and SU(3) in 2 + 1 and 3 + 1 dimensions. Calculations were done near the critical temperature of the confinement-desconfinement phase transition. We obtained values for the ratios of the screening masses consistent with pre

4. Off-diagonal mass generation for Yang-Mills theories in the maximal Abelian gauge
We investigate a dynamical mass generation mechanism for the off-diagonal gluons and ghosts in SU(N) Yang-Mills theories, quantized in the maximal Abelian gauge. Such a mass can be seen as evidence for the Abelian dominance in that gauge. It originates from the condensation of a mixed gluon-ghost operator of mass dimension two, which lowers the vacuum energy

5. From confining fields on the lattice to higher dimensions in the continuum
We discuss the relation between lattice phenomenology of confining fields in the vacuum state of Yang-Mills theories (mostly SU(2) case) and continuum theories. In the continuum, understanding of the confinement is most straightforward in the dual formulation which involves higher dimensions. We try to bridge these two approaches to the confinement, let it b

6. A local non-Abelian gauge invariant action stemming from the nonlocal operator FmuN(D²)-1FmuN
We report on the nonlocal gauge invariant operator of dimension two, FµN (D²)-1 FµN. We are able to localize this operator by introducing a suitable set of (anti)commuting antisymmetric tensor fields. Starting from this, we succeed in constructing a local gauge invariant action containing a mass parameter, and we prove the renormalizability to all orders

7. Aspectos não perturbativos das teorias de Yang-Mills. / Non-perturbative aspects of Yang-Mills theory

8. Local and global symmetries in gauge theories / Simetrias globais e locais em teorias de calibre
This thesis deals with the geometric formulation of classical gauge theories, or Yang-Mills theories, regarded as an important class of models that must be included in any attempt to establish a general mathematical framework for classical field theory. Such a formulation must come in (at least) two variants: the hamiltonian version which has gone through a

9. Remarks on the dynamical mass generation in confining Yang-Mills theories
The dynamical mass generation for gluons is discussed in Euclidean Yang-Mills theories supplemented with a renormalizable mass term. The mass parameter is not free, being determined in a self-consistent way through a gap equation which obeys the renormalization group. The example of the Landau gauge is worked out explicitly at one loop order. A few remarks o

10. VÃrtices NÃo-Abelianos com Acoplamento NÃo-MÃnimo em um Background Gravitacional
The main purpose of this thesis is to investigate how the non-Abelian gauge symmetry affects the solutions of the equations of motion in some field theory models. We concern ourselves specifically with three dimensional field theories. We will note here that planar systems give us the needed informations about the theories approached here. Topological defect

11. Remarks on gauge fixing and BRST quantization of noncommutative gauge theories
We consider the BRST gauge fixing procedure of the noncommutative Yang-Mills theory and of the gauged U(N) Proca model. An extended Seiberg-Witten map involving ghosts, antighosts and auxiliary fields for non-Abelian gauge theories is studied. We find that the extended map behaves differently for these models. For the Yang-Mills theory in the Lorentz gauge i

We review some recent developments on BPS string solutions and monopole confinement in the Higgs (or color) superconducting phase of or = 2 and or = 4 super Yang-Mills theories. In particular, the monopole magnetic fluxes are shown to be always integer li
