1. Guaruman: a Natural Amazonian Fiber with Potential for Polymer Composite Reinforcement
The Amazonian region of South America is known for its diversified number of plants from which food, medicine, wood and fibers have, since long time, been produced by local natives. A typical example is the guarumã (“guaruman”as suggested English spelling) scientifically identified as Ischinosiphon koem, an abundant plant found in the low lands alongsid

2. Biocomposites reinforced with natural fibers:thermal, morphological and mechanical characterization
ABSTRACT This study evaluates the thermal, morphological and mechanical behavior of polypropylene (PP) composite with different natural fibers. The fibers used were wood, sugarcane, bamboo, babassu, coconut and kenaf with and without coupling agent. The thermal, morphological and mechanical properties were evaluated, and a composite PP+GFPP (glass fiber) was

3. Biodegradation in Soil of the PHB/Wood Flour (80/20) and PHB/Sisal Fiber (80/20) Tubes
This paper presents the results of a study that aimed to monitor and evaluate biodegradation in soil, by the mass loss and the mechanical properties of plastic tubes. For this work, there were extruded and injected plastic tubes made of biodegradable polymer poly(hydroxybutyrate) - (PHB) and composite PHB/Wood Flour and PHB/Sisal Fiber, both with 20% fiber.

4. Effect of Wood-derived Charcoal Content on Properties of Wood Plastic Composites
The effect of wood-derived charcoal flour on the water resistance and mechanical properties of wood plastic composite (WPC) panels was investigated. The hot press molded WPC panels were produced from polypropylene (37 wt%) with maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene (MAPP, 3 wt%) and different mixtures of wood flour and charcoal flour. The amount of charcoal

5. Influence of coupling agent in compatibility of post-consumer HDPE in thermoplastic composites reinforced with eucalyptus fiber
This study investigates the feasibility of using recycled high density polyethylene (HDPE) and wood fiber from species Eucalyptus grandis (EU) to manufacture experimental composite panels. The use of maleated polyethylene as coupling agent (CA) improved the compatibility between the fiber and plastic matrix. The mechanical properties of the resultant composi

6. In situ polymerized wood polymer composite: effect of additives and nanoclay on the thermal, mechanical properties
This study concerns the preparation and characterization of wood polymer nanocomposites based on impregnation of styrene acrylonitrile co-polymer-nanoclay intercalating system in presence of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), a cross linking agent, and vinyl trichloro silane (VTCS) as additives into Simul (Bombex ceiba, L.), a soft wood. The effect of nanoclay and

8. Sodium lignosulphonate as agent of modification of lignocellulosic fiber surface and formulation of phenolic thermoset / Lignosulfonato de sódio como agente de modificação da superfície de fibras lignocelulósicas e da formulação de termorrígido fenólico
Due to the great current interest in biocomposites because of both the use of lignocellulosic fibers as reinforcers of polymer matrices and the production of matrices prepared from renewable raw material, this study has sought to improve the properties of phenolic thermosets using sodium lignosulphonate as a macromonomer, and the insertion of sisal fibers, e

9. Development of extruded profiles from high density polyethylene and wood flour composites / Desenvolvimento de perfis extrudados de compósitos de polietileno de alta densidade com farinha de madeira
Polymer profiles extrusion shows some peculiarity due to the flow behavior of these materials during the processing. On the other hand, the profile die design and tooling has been more a result of professionals expertise than an engineering project in essence. In the present work, it was aimed to combining concepts of computers aided engineering to rheologic

10. Estudos das propriedades mecânicas e térmicas do polímero biodegradável poli-3-hidroxibutirato (PHB) e de compósitos PHB/pó de madeira. / Study of mechanical and thermal properties of the biodegradable polymer poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) and PHB/wood flour composites.
The purpose of this work was the study of the mechanical and thermal properties of processed, reprocessed and irradiated PHB, as well as PHB/wood flour composites. PHB/wood flour composites were prepared with PHB/wood relation of 90/10, 80/20 e 70/30 (w/w). Mechanical properties, HDT, Vicat melting point and thermo analyses (TGA and DSC) tests were carried o

11. Influência de modificações interfaciais nas propriedades mecânicas de compósitos de polipropileno com farinha de madeira
Among numerous fibers of commercial interest used as fillers and reinforcement in thermoplastics, wood waste fibers (WWF), mostly known as wood flour, can replace mineral fillers such as talc, CaCO3 and fiberglass with great advantage. Wood-plastics composites (WPCs) technology includes concepts of compatibility and processing and yet presents technical chal

12. Influence of impregnation with styrene and methyl methacrylate on physical and mechanical properties of Eucalyptus grandis and Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis / "Influência da impregnação com estireno e com metacrilato de metila em propriedades físicas e mecânicas da madeira de Eucalyptus grandis e de Pinus caribaea var.hondurensis"
Large exploration of native forestry resources in Brazil has led to a decrease in supply of the most widely used species in several sectors, notably in civil construction and furniture industries. The most immediate remedy has been the use of reforestation timber, obtained from the common Eucalyptus and Pinus species available in the south and southwest regi
