1. Biovidros e vitrocerâmicos bioativos do sistema 3Ca0.P205-Si02-MgO para aplicações biomédicas: processamento e caracterizações estruturais mecânicas e biológicas / Biglasses and bioactive glass-ceramics based on 3CaO.P2O5-SiO2-MgO-system for biomedical applications: processing, and structural, mechanical and biological characterization

3. X-Ray crystallography analysis of a heusler alloy (Co2ScSn) and bioceramic material by Rietveld method / Análise por cristalografia de raios X de uma liga de Heusler (Co2ScSn) e de material biocerâmico através do Método de Rietveld.
Two polycrystalline materials were analysed by X-ray diffraction: a Heusler alloy (Co2ScSn), where samples originating from the same preparation were submitted to several different thermal treatments, and a bioceramic material. The Rietveld method was employed for the refinement. The analysis of the Heusler alloy clearly revealed the presence of a second pha

4. Magnesium whitlockite deposition in articular cartilage: a study of 80 specimens from 70 patients.
OBJECTIVE--To examine articular cartilage from a number of joint sites, using a large sample group, for the presence of magnesium whitlockite crystal deposition. METHODS--Articular cartilage specimens were taken from a total of 70 patients. The majority of specimens were taken from femoral heads, with smaller numbers from femoral condyle, tibial plateau, rad

5. Aortic valvular tophus: identification by X-ray diffraction of urate and calcium phosphates.
A typical gouty tophus with birefringent, dichroic, needle shaped crystals was found in a resected calcified aortic valve on routine histological examination. The patient, an elderly man, had a long history of gout. X-ray diffraction confirmed the presence of sodium acid urate monohydrate and identified hydroxyapatite and whitlockite in the accompanying dyst
