25. Antioxidative responses of water hyacinth under cadmium stress / Resposta antioxidativa de aguapé sob estresse por cádmio
Plants of hyancinth were treated during 8 days in water containing 0,05 and 0,50 mM of CdCl2 under natural light in a glasshouse maintained at 25-32°C with a 16 h photoperiod. The effect of cadmium on oxidative enzymes and nitrogen metabolism was studied. After 8 days an alteration on SOD activity was observed when the pattern of bands was analyzed by e

26. Uso de aguapà (Eichhornia crassipes) em sistema de tratamento de efluente de matadouro e frigorÃfico e avaliaÃÃo de sua compostagem
The objective of the recent research was to evaluate the water hyacinth performance (E. crassipes), applied in situ in a slaughter house treatment system, located in the west of the Paranà state, observing the nutrients removal (nitrogen composts and total phosphorus), organic matter (COD and BOD), turbidity and suspended solids, obtaining as well data from

27. Uptake of Vibrio cholerae Biotype eltor from Contaminated Water by Water Hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes)
Vibrio cholerae biotype eltor appears to concentrate on the surface of the water hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes), thereby enhancing its survival and its potential for transmission through waterways of cholera-endemic regions such as Bangladesh.

28. Bostrycin and 4-deoxybostrycin: two nonspecific phytotoxins produced by Alternaria eichhorniae.
Two crystalline red pigments with phytotoxic activity were isolated from culture filtrates of Alternaria eichhorniae, a pathogen of the water hyacinth Eichhornia crassipes. The pigments were present in the ratio of 4:1 and were identified as bostrycin and 4-deoxybostrycin, respectively. This is the first isolation of 4-deoxybostrycin from a natural source. B

29. Polyamine Oxidase from Water Hyacinth: Purification and Properties
Polyamine oxidase was purified to homogeneity from leaves of water hyacinth by the criterion of sodium dodecyl sulfate gel electrophoresis (SDS disc PAGE). The enzyme showed a high specificity for spermidine and spermine (Km values 28 micromolar and 20 micromolar, respectively). The optimal pH of the enzyme for both spermidine and spermine was 6.5. The molec

30. Photosynthesis and Growth of Water Hyacinth under CO2 Enrichment 1
Water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes [Mart.] Solms) plants were grown in environmental chambers at ambient and enriched CO2 levels (330 and 600 microliters CO2 per liter). Daughter plants (ramets) produced in the enriched CO2 gained 39% greater dry weight than those at ambient CO2, but the original mother plants did not. The CO2 enrichment increased the numb

31. Biochemical, Genetic, and Zoosporicidal Properties of Cyclic Lipopeptide Surfactants Produced by Pseudomonas fluorescens
Zoospores play an important role in the infection of plant and animal hosts by oomycetes and other zoosporic fungi. In this study, six fluorescent Pseudomonas isolates with zoosporicidal activities were obtained from the wheat rhizosphere. Zoospores of multiple oomycetes, including Pythium species, Albugo candida, and Phytophthora infestans, were rendered im
