1. Analysis of the middle region of the pharynx in adolescents with different anteroposterior craniofacial skeletal patterns

2. Multimídia sobre velofaringe e palatoplastia na fissura labiopalatina / This project had the objectives of developing a multimedia material with information regarding velopharynx and primary palatoplasty in babies with cleft lip and palate, and evaluating the impact of the material in the knowledge of parents and caregivers of patients in treatment at the Hospital de Reabilitação de Anomalias Craniofaciais da Universidade de São Paulo (HRAC/USP). The project was developed at the Laboratório de Fonética Experimental e no Setor de Educação e Terapia Ocupacional do HRAC-USP and was divided into two phases. Phase 1 involved the elaboration of the multimedia material about the velopharynx and primary palatoplasty in babies with cleft lip and palate. This first phase included definition and completion of the following aspects: targeted public, content, didactic illustrations, educational script, text and narration, audio-visual sequencing, and video preparation. Phase 2 involved comparing parents and caregivers knowledge before and after presentation of the material. The material developed during phase 1 was formatted into a DVD and is available at the slipcover of this manuscript. During phase 2 the assessment script was applied to 41 parents and caregivers of patients with cleft lip and palate before and after presentation of the material to all participants. Data observed after the presentation of the material revealed that the minimum number of correct answers regarding the aspects addressed in the material increased from 8 (20%) to 19 (46%) while the number of maximum correct answers increased from 35 (85%) to 40 (98%), resulting in an overall increase of the mean correct answers from 25 (61%) to 35 (86%). Chi-Square test revealed a significant difference for the improvement observed for answers after the participants reviewed the material, particularly for the questions addressing the role of the velopharynx and the role of the primary palatoplasty for the reconstruction of the velopharynx. Overall findings, therefore, suggest a positive impact of the material resulting in an increase of the knowledge of the group.

3. Nasalance and nasality at experimental velopharyngeal openings in palatal prosthesis: a case study
The use of prosthetic devices for correction of velopharyngeal insufficiency (VPI) is an alternative treatment for patients with conditions that preclude surgery and for those individuals with a hypofunctional velopharynx (HV) with a poor prognosis for the surgical repair of VPI. Understanding the role and measuring the outcome of prosthetic treatment of vel

4. Nasoendoscopy of velopharynx before and during diagnostic therapy
Nasoendoscopy is an important tool for assessing velopharyngeal function. The purpose of this study was to analyze velar and pharyngeal wall movement and velopharyngeal gap during nasoendoscopic evaluation of the velopharynx before and during diagnostic therapy. Nasoendoscopic recordings of 10 children with operated cleft lip and palate were analyzed accordi

5. Effect of reduced expiratory pressure on pharyngeal size during nasal positive airway pressure in patients with sleep apnoea: evaluation by continuous computed tomography.
BACKGROUND: This study aimed to determine whether reducing the expiratory pressure during nasal positive airway pressure for reasons of comfort causes a substantial decrease in the upper airway calibre. METHODS: Eight patients with obstructive sleep apnoea were studied. Continuous computed tomography (each run lasting 12 seconds) was used to measure minimum
