1. Simultaneous Multienzymatic Screening with Fluorogenic Probes
The simultaneous screening of multiple enzyme activities in a single assay has numerous advantages over the traditional format, since it decreases sampling errors, allows savings in reagents and consumables and reduces the time and labor required to conduct the assays. In the present study, a direct and sensitive assay for the simultaneous detection of epoxi

2. Application of a Quantitative HPLC-ESI-MS/MS Method for Flavonoids in Different Vegetables Matrices
Plant flavonoids have been increasingly studied for its importance in plant metabolism, inter-species interactions and human health-promoting effects. Each botanical species has a distinct flavonoid profile, and as such, this work aimed to develop and apply a high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (

4. Study of natural products and synthetic derivatives searching specific inhibitors of cathepsins L and V / Estudo de produtos naturais e derivados sintéticos buscando inibidores seletivos das catepsinas L e V
The present work describes the search of bioactive secondary metabolites in plant species of genus Zanthoxylum and synthetic derivatives seeking specific inhibitors of cathepsins L and V. The natural products are involved in approximately 50% of all drugs marketed. Cathepsins represent a class of enzymes that has the primary function of randomly degrade prot

5. Cumarinas e alcaloides de Rauia resinosa (rutaceae)
The genus Rauia, that is poorly chemically studied, belongs to the Rutaceae family. This family has been known to contain a large variety of secondary metabolites. Our phytochemical investigation of the stem and leaves of Rauia resinosa has led to the identification of the structurally related coumarins: murralongin (1), murrangatin (2), munomicrolin (3), mu

7. Alcaloides β-indolopiridoquinazolínicos de Esenbeckia grandiflora mart. (Rutaceae)
The chemical composition of two specimens of Esenbeckia grandiflora, collected in the south and northeast regions of Brazil, was investigated. In this study, three β-indolopyridoquinazoline alkaloids from the leaves (rutaecarpine, 1-hydroxyrutaecarpine) and roots (euxylophoricine D) were isolated for the first time in this genus. In addition, the triterpene

8. PHYTOCHEMISTRY OF Citrus sinensis GRAFTING ONTO C. limonia AND OF THE Nycticalanthus specious SPECIES (RUTACEAE) AND THE BIOSYNTHESIS OF PRENYLATED COUMARINES / Fitoquímica do caule de Citrus limonia enxertado com C. sinensis e da espécie de Nycticalanthus speciosus (RUTACEAE) e biossíntese de cumarinas preniladas
The Cravo lime species (C. limonia) acts as the grafting host, mostly used in the Brazilian citriculture and because of its precocious productivity, besides its good adaptation to most common soils, permitting for an optimum harvest. With the aim to contribute to the chemical knowledge of these graftings and to better understand its mechanisms, a phytochemic

9. Use of umbelliferone derivatives in the study of enzyme activities of mycobacteria.
A spectrophotometric method using umbelliferone derivatives has been developed for the study of enzymic activites of mycobacteria. Arylsulphatase activity can be estimated in six hours rather than in 10 days as in the conventional method. The technique may be applied to a study of whole cells or to cell-free extracts.

11. Substrate-labeled fluorescent immunoassay for amikacin in human serum.
A homogeneous substrate-labeled fluorescent immunoassay has been developed to measure amikacin levels in human serum. Amikacin is covalently labeled with the fluorogenic enzyme substrate beta-galactosyl-umbelliferone. This beta-galactosyl-umbelliferone-amikacin conjugate is nonfluorescent under assay conditions until it is hydrolyzed by beta-galactosidase to

12. Microbial Esterase Detection with Ultraviolet Fluorescence
A method is presented to identify esterase-synthesizing microbial colonies within mixed culture plates by utilizing induced esterase hydrolysis of nonfluorescent butyryl ester of 7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin to the highly fluorescent 7-hydroxy-4 methyl umbelliferone. Microscopy procedures for making esterase loci of fungal mycelia visible with this reaction ar
