13. Complex RNA maturation pathway for a chloroplast ribosomal protein operon with an internal tRNA cistron.
We have studied the expression of a large chloroplast ribosomal protein operon from Euglena gracilis that resembles the Escherichia coli S10 and spc ribosomal protein operons. We present evidence that 11 ribosomal protein genes, a tRNA gene, and a new locus, orf214/orf302, are expressed as a single transcription unit. The primary transcript also contains at

14. Inefficient rpl2 splicing in barley mutants with ribosome-deficient plastids.
Analysis of transcript accumulation and splicing in plastids of four nuclear mutants of barley revealed that the ribosomal protein L2 (rpl2) gene transcripts containing a group II intron remained entirely unspliced, whereas the intron of the ribosomal protein L16 (rpl16) gene (linked with the rpl2 gene in the same operon) was removed in the mutant plastids.

15. Junctions of the large single copy region and the inverted repeats in Spinacia oleracea and Nicotiana debneyi chloroplast DNA: sequence of the genes for tRNAHis and the ribosomal proteins S19 and L2.
This work describes the organization, at the nucleotide sequence level, of genes flanking the junctions of the large single copy regions and the inverted repeats of Spinacia oleracea (spinach) and Nicotiana debneyi chloroplast DNAs. In both genomes, trnH1, the gene for tRNA-His(GUG) is located at the extremity of the large single copy region 3' to psbA, the

16. Transfer RNA genes in the mitochondrial genome from a liverwort, Marchantia polymorpha: the absence of chloroplast-like tRNAs.
Twenty-nine genes for 27 species of tRNAs were deduced from the complete nucleotide sequence of the mitochondrial genome from a liverwort, Marchantia polymorpha. One to three species of tRNA genes corresponded to each of 20 amino acids including three species for leucine and arginine, two species for serine and glycine, and one for the rest of the amino acid
