13. Relações solo-vegetação no Parque Nacional da Serra do Cipó, Espinhaço Meridional, Minas Gerais / Soil vegetation relationships in the National Park Serra do Cipó, in Espinhaço Meridional, Minas Gerais
The region of Serra do Rio Cipó, in the southern part of the Serra do Espinhaço, comprises large areas of Cerrado, Atlantic forest, forest islands and one of the richest high-altitude rocky vegetation in Brazil. The ecotonal character between the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest biomes, described in many studies of regional flora and fauna, is one of the factor

18. Soil macrofauna, regeneration of tree species, lianas and epiphytes in different aged restoration areas at Pontal do Paranapanema / Macrofauna edáfica, regeneração natural de espécies arbóreas, lianas e epífitas em florestas em processo de restauração com diferentes idades no Pontal do Paranapanema
This study aimed to describe the soil macrofauna community, the natural tree species regeneration, lianas and epiphytes in three different restoration areas at Pontal do Paranapanema. These areas were planted with a mix of regional native tree species, aging 6 years (planted in 1998), 11 years (1993 plantation) and 16 years (1988 plantation). The evaluation

Characterization of the natural vegetation in Ribeirão Preto, SP: Bases for conservation.
In a search to establish a solid base for conservation of forest fragments in Ribeirão Preto, SP, a diagnosis of the natural vegetation of the municipality was done. There are 102 forest remnants and in 99 of them an expeditious floristic survey was carried out. In this survey, 494 tree species were found belonging to 74 botanic families along with 31 exoti

20. Fungal endophytes limit pathogen damage in a tropical tree
Every plant species examined to date harbors endophytic fungi within its asymptomatic aerial tissues, such that endophytes represent a ubiquitous, yet cryptic, component of terrestrial plant communities. Fungal endophytes associated with leaves of woody angiosperms are especially diverse; yet, fundamental aspects of their interactions with hosts are unknown.

21. Changes in Quinone Profiles of Hot Spring Microbial Mats with a Thermal Gradient
The respiratory and photosynthetic quinones of microbial mats which occurred in Japanese sulfide-containing neutral-pH hot springs at different temperatures were analyzed by spectrochromatography and mass spectrometry. All of the microbial mats that developed at high temperatures (temperatures above 68°C) were so-called sulfur-turf bacterial mats and produc
