13. Changes in the crystalline degree in neutron irradiated EPDM viewed through infrared spectroscopy and inelastic neutron scattering
ABSTRACT The changes in the degree of crystallinity in commercial Ethylene Propylene Diene rubber-type M (EPDM) irradiated with neutrons at different doses has been studied by means of inelastic neutron scattering and infrared absorption spectroscopy experiments. EPDM samples were taken from the housing of non-ceramic electrical insulators which are used in

14. Physiochemical and Optical Properties of GdF3:Pr@LaF3@SiO2 Microspheres
The polyol-based co-precipitation process was employed for synthesis of GdF3:Pr (core) and GdF3:Pr@LaF3 (core-shell) microspheres (MSs). Subsequently, an amorphous silica layer was deposited surrounding the core-shell MSs, which was verified from high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) and FTIR results.

15. Compact MIMO Antenna for Multiband Mobile Applications
Abstract This paper presents a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna for multiband operation based on meander lines with L shaped metallic strip. Meander lines is basically a monopole antenna loaded with multiple sections of short circuited transmission line that acts as inductor and alter the impedance characteristics of antenna. Antenna size miniat

16. A Compact UWB Bandpass Filter using Hybrid Fractal Shaped DGS
Abstract In this paper, a novel and compact ultra wideband (UWB) bandpass filter (BPF) based on fractal-shaped defected ground structure (DGS) is designed and developed. It is made of stepped impedance lines and a composite right/left handed-transmission line (CRLH-TL) constructed with capacitive gap in conductor strip and a hybrid fractal-shaped ring slot i

17. Ultrastructure of Zika virus particles in cell cultures
Zika virus (ZIKV) has infected thousands of Brazilian people and spread to other American countries since 2015. The introduction of ZIKV brought a strong impact to public health in Brazil. It is of utmost importance to identify a susceptible cell line that will enable the isolation and identification of the virus from patient samples, viral mass production,

18. Design of a Microstrip Diplexer and Triplexer Using Open Loop Resonators
Abstract In this paper a novel design of microstrip diplexer and triplexer using open loop resonators is presented. The proposed diplexer if formed by two band-pass filters for the Industrial Scientific Medical (ISM) applications at 5.8 GHz and the WIMAX applications (IEEE 802.16 WiMAX at 3.17 GHz to 4.2 GHz bands). The microstrip triplexer is designed for t

19. The Smart Grid Concept in Oil & Gas Industries by a Field Trial of Data Communication in MV Power Lines
Abstract Nowadays, communication and networking technologies are essential for Oil & Gas industries in order to guarantee reliability, safety and low costs in the producing process. Information access and commands and set-points transmission from/to automation systems are challenging tasks mainly due to distributed production areas and hostile environments.

20. Exposure to 50 Hz electromagnetic field changes the efficiency of the scorpion alpha toxin
AbstractBackground Extremely low-frequency (50 Hz) electromagnetic field (ELF-EMF) is produced by electric power transmission lines and electronic devices of everyday use. Some phenomena are proposed as “first effects” of ELF-EMF: the discrete changes in the membrane potential and the increase of the calcium channel activity as well as the intracellular

21. Long Period Bragg Grating in Coaxial Transmission Lines
This work shows the utilization of a coaxial cable for the fabrication of a long period Bragg grating. The grating is fabricated removing the dielectric in short pieces of the cable so that the discontinuities account for the variation in the medium refractive index. Simulated and experimental results of the grating resonances are shown as a function of the

22. Numerical Simulation of Hot Closed Die Forging of a Low Carbon Steel Coupled with Microstructure Evolution
Hot closed die forging is a regular process applied to manufacture metallic components used in supporting and fixing cable conductors in electric power transmission lines. In this forming process, the final microstructure of the workpiece depends on the control of several processing parameters. In this study, simulation of the industrial forging process of a

23. Transmission of a 1.12 Tb/s superchannel over 452 km fiber
This paper describes the transmission of a non-guard interval 1.12 Tb/s 10-carrier superchannel, launched into a 226 km recirculating loop. After two round trips (452 km) a BER below the FEC limit (3.8 x 10-3) was still obtained. To evaluate the superchannel generation technique, up to 72 comb lines (OSNRmin = 12.7 dB) were generated and modulated (DP-QPSK)
