1. Mercury Concentration in Liver Tissues of South American Fur Seals (Arctocephalus australis) from Southwestern Atlantic Ocean
Mercury (Hg) contamination of oceans is rapidly increasing, however Hg bioaccumulation in pinnipeds has been understudied. Here, we report for the first time Hg concentration in liver tissues of South American fur seals (Arctocephalus australis) in South and Southeast Brazil. Hg concentration was determined in twenty-five fur seals’ specimens found strande

2. Mercury in muscle and liver of Plagioscion squamosissimus (Acanthuriformes: Sciaenidae) from the Machado River, Brazilian Amazon

3. Mercury and methylmercury in carapace of the marine turtle Caretta caretta, in northeastern Brazil and its potential for environmental monitoring
Abstract: The present work tests the use of carapace fragments of the marine turtle Caretta caretta as a tool for environmental biomonitoring of mercury (Hg) and to evaluate the influence of biological and ecological factors in Hg concentrations. Samples of carapace fragments were obtained during the nesting season of 2012 and 2016 and were analyzed for thei

4. Assessment of mercury contamination in Brycon falcatus (Characiformes: Bryconidae) and human health risk by consumption of this fish from the Teles Pires River, Southern Amazonia

5. Mercury content in the fur of jaguars (Panthera onca) from two areas under different levels of gold mining impact in the Brazilian Pantanal
ABSTRACT The Pantanal is the largest inland wetland in the world and is under increasing anthropogenic threats, including long-term regionally intensive gold mining practices. Gold mining activities are known to cause the release of harmful pollutants such as mercury (Hg) to the surrounding environment. Jaguars (Panthera onca (Linnaeus, 1758)) are apex preda

6. The Effect of Atmosphere on Elemental Mercury Release During Thermal Treatment of Two Bituminous Coals
The dynamic release behavior of elemental Hg (Hg0) during thermal treatment of two bituminous coals was studied under N2, CO2 and air atmospheres. The results show that the profiles of Hg0 released present several peaks during thermal treatment of two bituminous coals. The Hg peak profiles for the same coal are different with the different atmosphere used. T

7. Mercury bioaccumulation and isotopic relation between Trichiurus lepturus (Teleostei) and its preferred prey in coastal waters of southeastern Brazil

8. Degradation of the Dye Reactive Blue 4 by Coupled Photoassisted Electrochemistry at DSA®-Type Electrode
We investigated the photoelectrochemical oxidation of the dye Reactive Blue 4 in the presence of a DSA®-type electrode of nominal composition Ti/Ru0.3Ti0.7O2 under ultraviolet radiation, aiming to enhance the degradation yields of this dye. We conducted the photoelectrocatalytic treatment under galvanostatic control, using an 80 W mercury vapor lamp as the

9. Feasibility of Using AAS for the Characterization of a Tuna Fish Candidate Reference Material for Total Hg and Methyl-Hg Measurement
This work describes the evaluation of several parameters for preparing a tuna fish candidate reference material (RM) in order to measure its total Hg and methyl-Hg mass fractions by cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry (CV-AAS) and solid sampling graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (SS-GF AAS). Best results were acquired after extraction wit

10. Total Mercury Determination in Petroleum Green Coke and Oily Sludge Samples by Cold Vapor Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry
A fast, simple and reliable method for Hg determination in green coke and oily sludge samples by atomic fluorescence spectrometry is described. Microwave digestion and extraction procedures were evaluated for highly complex samples of coke and oily sludge. The concentrations of SnCl2 and HCl to promote Hg vapor, were optimized, as well as the concentration o

11. METODOLOGIAS DE COLETA, PRESERVAÇÃO E ARMAZENAMENTO DE AMOSTRAS DE ÁGUA PARA ANÁLISE DE MERCÚRIO - UMA REVISÃO
Knowing the mercury levels of an environment allows a diverse array of biogeochemical studies into the mercury cycle on a local or global scale. Among matrices commonly evaluated, water remains a challenge for research because its mercury levels can be very low, requiring development of complex analytical protocols. Currently, sample preservation methods, pr

12. DISTRIBUIÇÃO E FRACIONAMENTO DO Hg EM SEDIMENTOS DO RIO PARAÍBA DO SUL – RJ, BRASIL
Mercury distribution and fractionation were determined in sediments from the Paraíba do Sul River – RJ, Brazil. Total mercury concentration ranged from 1 to 158 ng g-1. Hg associated with the weakly bound fraction was dominant in the estuarine areas (main - 60% and secondary - 55%); followed by fluvial end member (48%) and mangrove (18%). These results re
