1. Heat Treatment of Sintered Valve Seat Inserts
The characterization of sintered valve seat inserts (VSIs) after being subjected to different heat treatment operations has been carried out. The VSIs were obtained from three different alloys by mixing iron powder with AISI M3:2, AISI M2 high-speed steels, and AISI D2 tool steel. After sintering, the VSI were quenched in air followed by double tempering at

2. Método innovador de ensayos de impacto en altas temperaturas aplicado en aceros al carbono
ABSTRACT In this paper, an innovative method of impact tests at high temperature on sub-size Charpy V notched specimens is applied. The innovation lies in the method of heating the specimen, which is performed in situ on a Charpy impact machine type by alternating electrical current through the specimen. The specimens are heated in a few seconds (v=32 ºC/s)

3. Effect of Processing Route on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Hot Work Tool Steel
Powder metallurgy is a growing sector in industrial production, as it offers outstanding energy, cost and material savings in comparison with established processing routes such as casting. Hot work toll steels are usually produced by ingot metallurgy, but also by powder metallurgy, namely hot isostatic pressing and powder forging routes. In this paper we inv

4. Corrosion Behavior and Microstructure of Borided Tool Steel
In the present study, the corrosion behaviors of borides formed on cold work tool steel have been investigated in a 4% M HCl acid solution. Boriding was performed in a solid medium consisting of Ekabor-II powders at 850 and 950°C for 6 h. The boride layer was characterized by SEM, EDS, XRD and the hardness tester. XRD analysis of boride layers on the surfac

5. The Effects of Cryogenic Treatment on the Corrosion of AISI D3 Steel
It is well known that cryogenic treatment is used to improve the mechanical properties of a material. Consequently, the use of cryogenic treatment has grown beyond its successful application on tool steels. In this research, the effects of cryogenic treatment on the corrosion of AISI D3 steel in 3.5% NaCl solution were examined by electrochemical impedance s

6. Study of the nitrided layer obtained by different nitriding methods
In this study, plasma nitriding, gas nitriding and solid nitriding were performed in AISI H13, AISI P20 and N-8550 tool steels. The aim of the study was compare the acquired properties after the thermochemical treatments and evaluate the efficiency of the solid nitriding treatment. The samples were analyzed using a microhardness tester and a scanning electro

7. Acquired Properties Comparison of Solid Nitriding, Gas Nitriding and Plasma Nitriding in Tool Steels
Plasma nitriding, gas nitriding and solid nitriding were applied in tool steels (AISI H13, AISI P20 and N-8550). The acquired properties were compared and evaluated on these three processes with the aim to verify the solid nitriding performance. In order to promote the solid nitriding, the samples were surrounded by a solid compound with the Fe4KCN stoichiom

9. Avaliação da resistência ao desgaste de aços inoxidáveis conformados por spray / Evaluation of the wear resistance of spray formed stainless steel
The aim of this work was the study of the microstructure and the wear resistance of two stainless steels, the ferritic-AIF with 27% Cr and the superduplex-SDM modified with boron (3.5% wt.), processed by spray forming. The rapid solidification promoted by this process has resulted in the formation of a new structure with refined grains and metastable phases.

10. Manufatura flexível: comparativo entre o modelo otimizado e o tradicional. / Flexible manufacture: comparative degree between the optimized model and the traditional one.
This work aims to optimize the machining process by reducing setup time and adjusting the consumption of cutting tools in a flexible manufacturing scenario, adopting an optimized model, which is then confronted with the traditional model, to show the advantages of one over the another. The tests consisted in making the turning operation of thinning on a CNC

11. Estudo do desgaste abrasivo e adesivo em aços ferramenta por meio do ensaio de pino-disco / Study of abrasive and adhesive wear in tool steels by pin-on-disc test

12. Study on the wear behavior of uncoated and thin film coated tools used in cold forming operations. / Estudo do desgaste de ferramentas com e sem revestimentos de filmes finos utilizadas em operações de conformação a frio.
This work is devoted to the study of wear mechanisms in cold forming tools, such as punches and dies. The text begins with a discussion on the galling phenomenon, which is the main wear mechanism that takes place in cold forming operations. A brief analysis of the tribological behavior of punches that have operated in industrial conditions is then presented.
