1. Steroidogenesis-related gene expression in the rat ovary exposed to melatonin supplementation
OBJECTIVE: To analyze steroidogenesis-related gene expression in the rat ovary exposed to melatonin supplementation. METHODS: Thirty-two virgin adult female rats were randomized to two groups as follows: the control group GI received vehicle and the experimental group GII received melatonin supplementation (10 µg/night per animal) for 60 consecutive days.

2. Correlation between Beta1 integrin expression and prognosis in clinically localized prostate cancer
Integrins are transmembrane glycoprotein receptors that regulate cell-matrix interactions, thus functioning as sensors from the environment. They also act as cell adhesion molecules that are responsible for the maintenance of the normal epithelial phenotype. Some studies have reported a correlation between carcinogenesis and changes in integrin expression, e

3. Ciclooxigenase-2 modula in vivo a expressão de marcadores da osteoclastogênese e genes envolvidos no metabolismo ósseo em resposta ao lipopolissacarídeo bacteriano / Ciclooxygenase-2 modulates in vivo the expression of osteoclastiogenesis makers and genes involved in bone metabolism in response to bacterial lipopolysaccharide
During an inflammatory response, several mediators are locally released in order to stimulate cellular and humoral immune response. Through the action of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase enzymes structural changes occur in the arachidonic acid chain leading to synthesis of prostaglandins or leukotrienes and lipoxins, respectively. Such mediators are responsib

4. Análise de genes diferencialmente expressos nas vias de sinalização (Hedgehog e Wnt) em carcinomas basocelulares humanos
Hedgehog (HH) and Wingless-Int (Wnt) signaling pathway are related to the process of cellular proliferation, differentiation, angiogenesis, matrix remodeling and homeostasis of stem cells. Over the years, several mutations in HH signaling pathway have been identified, including the loss of function mutations in ptch1 and the gain of function mutations in smo

5. Efeito da vitamina D no perfil transcricional de cultura organotípica de câncer de mama / Vitamin D effect in the transcriptional profile of breast cancer organotypic culture
High 1,25(OH)2D3 (VD) concentrations (10-100nM) exerts antiproliferative effects and modifies gene expression profile in breast cancer (BC) cell lines. However, studies conducted in cell lines disconsider stromal-epithelium interactions, which are known to regulate breast cancer development. Besides, high VD concentrations may cause hypercalcemia in vivo. Ou

6. Avaliação do papel diagnóstico e prognóstico da expressão imunoistoquímica de NDRG1, osteonectina, VEGF-A, VEGF-C, Flk-1/KDR, HIF-1 e galectina-3 em espécimes tireoideanos por tissue microarrays / Study of the diagnostic and prognostic role of immunohistochemical expression of NDRG1, osteonectin, VEGF-A, VEGF-C, Flk-1/KDR, HIF-1 and galectin-3 in thyroid specimens by tissue microarray

8. Alternagin-C, a disintegrin-like protein from the venom of Bothrops alternatus, modulates alpha2ß1 integrin-mediated cell adhesion, migration and proliferation
The alpha2ß1 integrin is a major collagen receptor that plays an essential role in the adhesion of normal and tumor cells to the extracellular matrix. Alternagin-C (ALT-C), a disintegrin-like protein purified from the venom of the Brazilian snake Bothrops alternatus, competitively interacts with the alpha2ß1 integrin, thereby inhibiting collagen binding. 10. Regulation of Gene Expression by Estrogen and Testosterone in the Proximal Mouse Reproductive Tract1
The role of estrogen and testosterone in the regulation of gene expression in the proximal reproductive tract is not completely understood. To address this question, mice were treated with testosterone or estradiol, and RNA from the efferent ducts and caput epididymides was processed and hybridized to Affymetrix M430 2.0 microarrays. Analysis of array output

11. Informatic selection of a neural crest-melanocyte cDNA set for microarray analysis
With cDNA microarrays, it is now possible to compare the expression of many genes simultaneously. To maximize the likelihood of finding genes whose expression is altered under the experimental conditions, it would be advantageous to be able to select clones for tissue-appropriate cDNA sets. We have taken advantage of the extensive sequence information in the

12. Array Analysis of Viral Gene Transcription during Lytic Infection of Cells in Tissue Culture with Varicella-Zoster Virus
Varicella-zoster virus (VZV), a neurotropic alphaherpesvirus, causes childhood chickenpox (varicella), becomes latent in dorsal root and autonomic ganglia, and reactivates decades later to cause shingles (zoster) and other neurologic complications. Although the sequence and configuration of VZV DNA have been determined, relatively little is known about viral
