37. Cardio-respiratory development in bird embryos: new insights from a venerable animal model
ABSTRACT The avian embryo is a time-honored animal model for understanding vertebrate development. A key area of extensive study using bird embryos centers on developmental phenotypic plasticity of the cardio-respiratory system and how its normal development can be affected by abiotic factors such as temperature and oxygen availability. Through the investiga

38. ANALYSIS OF A COMMERCIAL PORTABLE LITHIUM-ION BATTERY UNDER LOW CURRENT CHARGE-DISCHARGE CYCLES
The dependence between the transferred charge and the corresponding transference time to charge and discharge a portable cell phone Li-ion battery (LiCoO2/C) under cycles of low intensity currents was studied in detail. The voltage curve profile between 3.0 and 4.2 V and the charging and discharging time are strongly influenced by the applied current intensi

39. ANALYSIS OF AIR QUALITY IN SELECTED AREAS OF A POULTRY PROCESSING PLANT WITH THE USE OF A MICROBIOLOGICAL AIR SAMPLER
ABSTRACT The aim of the study was to analyze the air quality in selected production facilities specified as the so-called "high-risk zones". Air samples were analyzed using either the sedimentation or the impaction methods. The impaction method showed the applicability of the air sampler in in-situ measurements. An increase in the numbers of aerobic bacteria

40. Time domain NMR evaluation of poly(vinyl alcohol) xerogels
Abstract Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-based chemically cross-linked xerogels, both neat and loaded with nanoparticulate hydrophilic silica (SiO2), were obtained and characterized mainly through time domain NMR experiments (TD-NMR). Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) and wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) analyses were employed as secondary methods. TD-NMR, thr

41. Family’s presence associated with increased physical activity in patients with acute stroke: an observational study
ABSTRACT Background: Inherent differences in organization of stroke care and rehabilitation practices in various settings influence the activity levels of patients in the hospital. The majority of published studies have been carried out in developed countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Switzerland and Belgium; however, data from d

42. Effect of Metal Dispersion on the Hydrogenation of 2-Amyl Anthraquinone over Pd/Al2O3 Catalyst
A series of highly dispersed Pd/Al2O3 catalysts were prepared via the polyol method. The catalysts were characterized by nitrogen adsorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis spectrophotometry, temperature programmed reduction (TPR) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The influence of Pd particle size on the hydrogenation of 2-amyl anthraquinone (AAQ)

43. Longitudinal data assessment of global stability index in kale leaves
ABSTRACT Kale plants are usually sold “in natura” in street markets and malls. Kale leaves can have their appearance compromised by dehydration and discoloration due to increased post-harvest time exposure. We aimed to analyze the Global Stability Index (GSI) in kale accessions by means of repeated measurement analysis and curve grouping as a complementa

44. Work in Brazil: essays in historical and economic sociology
"Institutional frameworks, political action, social and political identities, class relations, social inertia and path dependence are the main aspects inquired in this book. Taken together, the chapters present a coherent and systematic portrait of Brazil, or a plausible point of view about the dynamics of our sociability which may interest the foreign reader. Collective bargaining, labour inspection, the labour and capital organizations are all elements of the Getulio Vargas legacies that, albeit with adaptations over time, still impinge upon our present. For that reason, it is impossible to understand what we are without looking back and trying and reconstruct the trajectories of the current institutions, social and political actors, and even the economy. As a consequence, most of the chapters adopt a historical sociological perspective, in dialogue between the contemporary context and the country’s vivid historiography."

45. Personality traits and psychiatric comorbidities in alcohol dependence
Non-adaptive personality traits may constitute risk factors for development of psychiatric disorders such as depression and anxiety. We aim to evaluate associations and the predictive value of personality traits among alcohol-dependent individuals, with or without psychiatric comorbidities. The convenience sample comprised two groups of males over 18 years o

46. Facile Method to Tune the Particle Size and Thermal Stability of Magnetite Nanoparticles
Nucleation and growth mechanism of iron oxide nanoparticles on zeolite template and their stability dependence are reported. Hyperfine field resulting from the variation of particle size indicates the effect of zeolite on particles growth; particle size decreases at lower concentration of zeolite. At higher concentration, a fraction of nano Fe3O4 experiences

47. A ‘Universal’ Bottom-up Sol-gel Based Synthesis of Pzt (1-x)/x Submicrometric Structures: 1. Dynamic Light Scattering Characterization of Precursor Stability and Aggregation Kinetics
This work proposes an extension of a sol-gel based synthesis route for obtaining highly hydrophobic, uniformly nanosized and stable precursor solutions of lead zirconate titanate [Pb(Zr1-xTix)O3 or PZT (1-x)/x] for any given (1-x)/x Zr:Ti ratio. Several representative PZT compositions were chosen and their precursors were studied by taking into account the t

48. Influence of supragingival biofilm control and smoking habit on Interleukin-1β concentration
This investigation compared gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) interleukin-1β (IL-1β) concentrations in periodontitis patients subjected to a strict supragingival biofilm control (Supra) for 6 months. Never-smokers (23) and smokers (n = 20; 19.6 ± 11.8 cigarettes/day) moderate-to-severe chronic periodontitis patients underwent a 6 months period of supragingi
