No que se refere ao atendimento odontológico de paciente com diabetes mellitus (DM) e doença periodontal, os estudos têm demonstrado que o tratamento da periodontite por meio da terapia mecânica convencional (raspagem e alisamento radicular), além de promover a melhora na saúde periodontal é capaz de também promover melhorias na saúde sistêmica.
