Extra-cellular matrix changes in Schistosoma mansoni-infected Biomphalaria glabrata

Reactivity of snails against parasites exhibits a primitive focal reaction, with encapsulation, phagocytosis and destruction of parasite larvae by macrophage-like cells - the hemocytes. This reaction mimics granulomatous inflammation seen in higher animals.
