Abstract The article studies the Program for the Expansion and Improvement of Rural Education that took place during the ‘80s in all the Argentine provinces except Buenos Aires, funded by the Inter-American Development Bank. It included a system of nuclearization of schools, accompanied by diagnostic policies. The main objectives of the project are to improve the quality of teaching, regionalization of the curriculum, provision of equipment and spare parts, as well as expansion and construction of school buildings.
