Abstract From a social viewpoint, one of the main features that ensures the right to gender identity is the exercise of the right to a name. In early 2016, Costa Rica consulted the Inter-American Human Rights Court about the compatibility between International Human Rights Law and its domestic juridical system, which requires a judicial procedure in order to have a person´s first name legally modified.
