Abstract The political thought of the Mexican conservatism and that of the supporters of the Empire of Maximilian have been studied and assessed in recent years by historical research. Not only has the modern character of their ideological premises been shown, but also the difficulty in clearly differentiating it from its liberal and Republican counterpart.
