Contemporary neuroanatomical models for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) propose that abnormalities of specific cortico-subcortical circuits mediate the disorder's symptoms. This paper focuses on the basal ganglia, believed to play a critical role in the functioning of those brain circuits.
