1. Caracterização da diversidade de fungos filamentosos associados a esponjas marinhas e avaliação da produção de lacase = : Diversity of filamentous fungi associated with marine sponges and evaluation of laccase production / Diversity of filamentous fungi associated with marine sponges and evaluation of laccase production
The ocean represents a promissing habitat in the search for new microorganisms, which may have the ability to produce enzymes of industrial interests different from that produced by their terrestrial counterparts. In this context, two samples of the marine sponge Dragmacidon reticulatum were collected on northern coast of São Paulo State, aiming at the char

2. Identification of fungi of the genus Aspergillus section nigri using polyphasic taxonomy
In spite of the taxonomy of the Aspergillus species of the Nigri Section being regarded as troublesome, a number of methods have been proposed to aid in the classification of this Section. This work aimed to distinguish Aspergillus species of the Nigri Section from foods, grains and caves on the basis in Polyphasic Taxonomy by utilizing morphologic and physi

3. Taxonomia de pracriontes isolados de cnidários de São Sebastião, SP, Brasil / Taxonomy of prokaryontes isolated from cnidarians of São Sebastião, SP, Brasil
Microorganisms have a key role in the health of cnidarians establishing ecologic relationships, of parasitism to mutualism. The knowledge on the diversity of prokaryotes associated with corals in Brazil is very limited. This is the first study on the taxonomic characterization of heterotrophic bacteria, including putative N2-fixing and specially vibrios isol

4. Taxonomia polifásica e características proteômicas do complexo Sporothrix schenckii / Polyphasic taxonomy and proteomic features in the Sporothrix schenckii complex

The term rhizobia is generically applied to bacteria capable of fixing the atmospheric nitrogen (N2) and converting it to a form assimilable by the plant, when in symbiosis with plants of the Leguminosae family. However, besides their ecological and economic importance, the rhizobia have not been subject of many studies. Based on the data obtained with t

7. Caracterização taxonomica de linhagens de Alicyclobacillus ssp. isolados na industria de suco concentrado de laranja. / Characterization taxonomic of strains of Alicyclobacillus ssp. isolated in the industry of concentrade juice of orange.

8. Aspectos metabólicos, fisiológicos e taxonômicos de actinomiceto produtor de exopolissacarídeos, proveniente de águas subterrâneas contaminadas (São Carlos, SP).
Strains Lc (CCT 7277) and Lg (CCT 7137), isolated from landfill leachate-contaminated groundwater and found to produce exopolysaccharides (ESP), were characterized by polyphasic taxonomy. The growth and EPS production of Lg strain on sugarcane molasses, at concentrations between 2% and 10% and on the standard GYM medium were studied and its responses to nutr

9. Polyphasic taxonomy, a consensus approach to bacterial systematics.
Over the last 25 years, a much broader range of taxonomic studies of bacteria has gradually replaced the former reliance upon morphological, physiological, and biochemical characterization. This polyphasic taxonomy takes into account all available phenotypic and genotypic data and integrates them in a consensus type of classification, framed in a general phy

10. Polyphasic Taxonomy of the Genus Vibrio: Numerical Taxonomy of Vibrio cholerae, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, and Related Vibrio Species
A set of 86 bacterial cultures, including 30 strains of Vibrio cholerae, 35 strains of V. parahaemolyticus, and 21 representative strains of Pseudomonas, Spirillum, Achromobacter, Arthrobacter, and marine Vibrio species were tested for a total of 200 characteristics. Morphological, physiological, and biochemical characteristics were included in the analysis.

11. Polyphasic Taxonomy of the Genus Vibrio: Polynucleotide Sequence Relationships Among Selected Vibrio Species
Polynucleotide relationships among selected Vibrio species were examined by means of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) reassociation reactions and chromatography on hydroxyapatite. Relative levels of intraspecific DNA duplex formation (V. cholerae-V. cholerae and V. parahaemolyticus-V. parahaemolyticus) were found to be high at 60 C (>80%), and only minimally redu

12. Genetic and phenetic analyses of Bradyrhizobium strains nodulating peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) roots.
Seventeen Bradyrhizobium sp. strains and one Azorhizobium strain were compared on the basis of five genetic and phenetic features: (i) partial sequence analyses of the 16S rRNA gene (rDNA), (ii) randomly amplified DNA polymorphisms (RAPD) using three oligonucleotide primers, (iii) total cellular protein profiles, (iv) utilization of 21 aliphatic and 22 aroma
