1. STUDY OF THERMAL EXPANSION AND COMPRESSION STRENGTH OF THREE WOOD SPECIES FROM PLANTATIONS
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect generated by a thermal treatment on the dimensional changes and compression behavior of three wood species from commercial plantations (Eucalyptus nitens, Tectona grandis and Gmelina arborea). To accomplish the goal, dilatometric and compression tests were performed in the three directions of wo

3. Wettability, Shrinkage and Color Changes of Araucaria angustifolia After Heating Treatment
The effects of thermal treatment on the wettability and shrink resistance of Araucaria angustifolia (Parana pine) were studied from 20 to 200 °C. The contact angles of water droplets on untreated and heat-treated samples were measured by the sessile drop method in the grain of heartwood and sapwood cut in the radial, longitudinal, and tangential directions.

4. Thin-plate spline - TPS method applied on the assessment of shrinkage (épsilonr) of Eucalyptus urophylla, E. saligna e E. urograndis / Método da Thin-plate spline - TPS aplicado ao estudo das deformações específicas de retração (épsilonr) da madeira de Eucalyptus urophylla, E. saligna e E. urograndis
The present research work had the aim to contribute for the development of testing procedures and evaluation of displacements to determine shrinkage of Eucalyptus urophylla, E. saligna and a hybrid E. urograndis in the radial and tangential directions using the Thin-plate Spline TPS method. It was carried out a theoretical and practical study in order to con

5. Variabilidade radial e longitudinal de propriedades da madeira de angico-vermelho (Anadenanthera peregrina (L.) Speg.) / Radial and longitudinal variability of properties of the wood of angico-vermelho (Anadenanthera peregrina (L.) Speg.)
The objective of this work was to determine the variability in the radial and longitudinal directions of some properties of the angico-vermelho (Anadenanthera peregrine (L.) Speg.) wood, from an area of native forest, located in the campus of the Universidade Federal de Viçosa, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The specific mass (basic and apparent), retractil

The present work constitutes a study of a numerical variation of the Poisson s ratio, in the wood. The Poisson s ratio is associated to Sijk terms of the wood compliance tensor, considering the rectilinear anisotropic theory, where the relationship between stress-strain is expressed by eij = Sijkskl. The terms of the tensor Sijk can vary with arbitrary direc

8. Regulation of Growth Anisotropy in Well-Watered and Water-Stressed Maize Roots (I. Spatial Distribution of Longitudinal, Radial, and Tangential Expansion Rates).
As a system to study the regulation of growth anisotropy, we studied thinning of the primary root of maize (Zea mays L.) occurring developmentally or induced by water stress. Seedlings were transplanted into vermiculite at a water potential of approximately -0.03 MPa (well-watered) or -1.6 MPa (water-stressed). The diameter of roots in both treatments decrea
