1. Supergravity, holography and light-meson spectroscopy

2. Cordas em espaços deformados / Strings in deformed space
In this thesis we studied rotating and oscillating strings under the AdS/CFT correspondence. These strings move in the AdS5 × S5, Lunin and Maldacena, R1, 9 and deformed R1, 9 spaces. In the case of the rotating string, the giant magnon and the spiky string were determined. In the case of the oscillating string, we found the solutions fo the classical equat

3. "Branas em supergravidade" / Branes in supergravity
This work intends to review the brane solutions of supergravity and contains a datailed deduction of the extremal and black solutions. In order to provide some motivations to the choices through the calculation, this work includes a brief review of some concepts from string theory and supersymmetry. This review will enable us to relate the supergravity solut

4. Classification of energy momentum tensors in n > 5 dimensional space-times: a review
Recent developments in string theory suggest that there might exist extra spatial dimensions, which are not small nor compact. The framework of a great number of brane cosmological models is that in which the matter fields are confined on a brane-world embedded in five dimensions (the bulk). Motivated by this we review the main results on the algebraic class

5. Collider tests for neutrino mass generation in a supersymmetric world with R-parity violation
We summarize the low energy features of a supersymmetric class of models with bilinear R-parity violation. We analyze two cases where the supersymmetry breaking is mediated either by supergravity or by anomaly induced contributions to the soft parameters and compare both scenarios in the context of recent neutrino conversion data and collider physics. We sho
