1. Modificações morfológicas e metabólicas em gramínea e leguminosa forrageiras tropicais relativas ao suprimento de enxofre / Metabolic and morphological changes in grass and legume tropical forages related to sulfur supply
Tanzânia) e do estilosante (Stylosanthes guianensis cv. Mine

2. Regulation of Sulfate Uptake and Expression of Sulfate Transporter Genes in Brassica oleracea as Affected by Atmospheric H2S and Pedospheric Sulfate Nutrition1
Demand-driven signaling will contribute to regulation of sulfur acquisition and distribution within the plant. To investigate the regulatory mechanisms pedospheric sulfate and atmospheric H2S supply were manipulated in Brassica oleracea. Sulfate deprivation of B. oleracea seedlings induced a rapid increase of the sulfate uptake capacity by the roots, accompa

3. Molecular cloning and functional analysis of SUT-1, a sulfate transporter from human high endothelial venules
High endothelial venules (HEV) are specialized postcapillary venules found in lymphoid organs and chronically inflamed tissues that support high levels of lymphocyte extravasation from the blood. One of the major characteristics of HEV endothelial cells (HEVEC) is their capacity to incorporate large amounts of sulfate into sialomucin-type counter-receptors f

4. Vacuolar Sulfate Transporters Are Essential Determinants Controlling Internal Distribution of Sulfate in Arabidopsis
Uptake of external sulfate from the environment and use of internal vacuolar sulfate pools are two important aspects of the acquisition of sulfur for metabolism. In this study, we demonstrated that the vacuolar SULTR4-type sulfate transporter facilitates the efflux of sulfate from the vacuoles and plays critical roles in optimizing the internal distribution

5. The Sulfate Transporter SST1 Is Crucial for Symbiotic Nitrogen Fixation in Lotus japonicus Root Nodules
Symbiotic nitrogen fixation (SNF) by intracellular rhizobia within legume root nodules requires the exchange of nutrients between host plant cells and their resident bacteria. Little is known at the molecular level about plant transporters that mediate such exchanges. Several mutants of the model legume Lotus japonicus have been identified that develop nodul

6. Expression cloning of two genes that together mediate organic solute and steroid transport in the liver of a marine vertebrate
Uptake of organic solutes and xenobiotics by mammalian cells is mediated by ATP-independent transporters, and four families of transporters have now been identified. To search for novel organic solute transporters, a liver cDNA library from an evolutionarily primitive marine vertebrate, the little skate Raja erinacea, was screened for taurocholate transport

7. CHR, a Novel Family of Prokaryotic Proton Motive Force-Driven Transporters Probably Containing Chromate/Sulfate Antiporters
We describe a small family of proteins, CHR, which contains members that function in chromate and/or sulfate transport. CHR proteins occur in bacteria and archaea. They consist of about 400 amino acyl residues, appear to have 10 transmembrane α-helical segments in an unusual 4+6 arrangement, and arose by an intragenic duplication event.

8. Plant members of a family of sulfate transporters reveal functional subtypes.
Three plant sulfate transporter cDNAs have been isolated by complementation of a yeast mutant with a cDNA library derived from the tropical forage legume Stylosanthes hamata. Two of these cDNAs, shst1 and shst2, encode high-affinity H+/sulfate cotransporters that mediate the uptake of sulfate by plant roots from low concentrations of sulfate in the soil solu

9. Global Expression Profile of Bacillus subtilis Grown in the Presence of Sulfate or Methionine
DNA arrays were used to investigate the global transcriptional profile of Bacillus subtilis grown in the presence of sulfate or methionine as the sole sulfur source. The expression of at least 56 genes differed significantly under the two growth conditions. The expression of several genes belonging to the S-box regulon was repressed in the presence of methio

10. Molecular Characterization of Two High Affinity Sulfate Transporters in Saccharomyces Cerevisiae
Strains resistant to the toxic analogues of sulfate, selenate and chromate have been isolated. Their genetic analysis allowed us to identify four genes. One, called MET28, encodes a transcriptional factor. The three other genes, called SUL1, SUL2 and SUL3, encode proteins involved in sulfate transport. The sequence of Sul1p and Sul2p indicate that they are i

11. Phloem-Localizing Sulfate Transporter, Sultr1;3, Mediates Re-Distribution of Sulfur from Source to Sink Organs in Arabidopsis1
For the effective recycling of nutrients, vascular plants transport pooled inorganic ions and metabolites through the sieve tube. A novel sulfate transporter gene, Sultr1;3, was identified as an essential member contributing to this process for redistribution of sulfur source in Arabidopsis. Sultr1;3 belonged to the family of high-affinity sulfate transporte

12. Transcriptome Profiling of Sulfur-Responsive Genes in Arabidopsis Reveals Global Effects of Sulfur Nutrition on Multiple Metabolic Pathways1[w]
Sulfate is a macronutrient required for cell growth and development. Arabidopsis has two high-affinity sulfate transporters (SULTR1;1 and SULTR1;2) that represent the sulfate uptake activities at the root surface. Sulfur limitation (–S) response relevant to the function of SULTR1;2 was elucidated in this study. We have isolated a novel T-DNA insertion
