1. Insights into the dynamics of hind leg development in honey bee (Apis mellifera L.) queen and worker larvae - A morphology/differential gene expression analysis
Phenotypic plasticity is a hallmark of the caste systems of social insects, expressed in their life history and morphological traits. These are best studied in bees. In their co-evolution with angiosperm plants, the females of corbiculate bees have acquired a specialized structure on their hind legs for collecting pollen. In the highly eusocial bees (Apini a

2. A web-based bioinformatics interface applied to the GENOSOJA project: databases and pipelines
The Genosoja consortium is an initiative to integrate different omics research approaches carried out in Brazil. Basically, the aim of the project is to improve the plant by identifying genes involved in responses against stresses that affect domestic production, like drought stress and Asian Rust fungal disease. To do so, the project generated several types

4. Differential gene expression, induced by salicylic acid and Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici infection, in tomato.
The objective of this work was to determine the transcript profile of tomato plants (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.), during Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici infection and after foliar application of salicylic acid. The suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) technique was used to generate a cDNA library enriched for transcripts differentially expr

5. Aluminum-induced genes in grass species.
The toxicity caused by aluminum (Al), intrinsic to acid soils, in?uences negatively the stability of crop production. Under toxic levels of Al, plant roots paralyze their development and become unable to explore the deeper layers of the soil, affecting nutrient and water acquisition and reducing crop yield. This study aimed to identify genes associated with

6. Isolation and characterization of genes functionally involved in ovarian development of the giant tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon by suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH)
Suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) libraries between cDNA in stages I (previtellogenic) and III (cortical rod) ovaries of the giant tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) were established. In all, 452 ESTs were unidirectionally sequenced. Sequence assembly generated 28 contigs and 201 singletons, 109 of which (48.0%) corresponding to known sequences previou

7. Identificação de genes diferencialmente expressos em tomateiro induzidos por ácido salicílico e por Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici.
To identify tomato plant (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill), cv. BRH, genes which answer to plant pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici and salicylic acid, the carrier molecule for activation of responses of plant defense, it was used the suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) technique, from leaf cDNAs, 24h after salicylic acid, library denominate

8. Prospecção e caracterização de genes associados ao processo de indução floral em cana-de-açúcar
The northeastern region is responsible to 14.32% of sugarcane national production. This lowered contribution is due to edaphoclimatic condition. Flowering is a vital process to plant which consumes lots of energy and it culminates in a process called isoporization. This one can give in a decreasing of 60% on alcohol and water production. It may consider that

9. Witches broom disease of cocoa : genome organization, genetic variability and anlysis of the identity and expression of pathogenicity genes of the fungal pathogen Crinipellis perniciosa / Vassoura-de-bruxa : organização genomica, variabilidade de isolados e analise da identidade e expressão de genes ligados a patogenicidade do fungo Crinipellis perniciosa
Witches broom disease of cocoa is a complex pathosystem that has evaded an efficient control program in the cacao-producing region of Bahia, Brazil. The main goal of this work was to acquire a better understanding of the C. perniciosa-Cacao interaction by providing new data regarding: 1) the size and organization of the fungal genome through molecular karyot

10. Identification of differentially expressed genes in queen and worker castes of Melipona quadrifasciata / Identificação de genes diferencialmente expressos nas castas da rainha e operaria de Melipona quadrifasciata
Caste polyphenism is a multifaceted phenomenon, most evident in the marked differences in reproductive capacity and longevity between queens and workers. In the present study, the stingless bee Melipona quadrifasciata anthidioides was chosen to investigate differences in gene expression between newly emerged adult queens and workers. This study has focused o

11. Subtractive hybridization system using single-stranded phagemids with directional inserts.
We describe a subtractive hybridization protocol which is designed to permit subtractions between cDNA libraries. The method uses single-stranded phagemids with directional inserts as both the driver and the target. We modified the M13 phagemid vector pBluescript for the directional cDNA cloning and subtractive hybridization. Two simplified methods for effic

12. Suppression subtractive hybridization: a method for generating differentially regulated or tissue-specific cDNA probes and libraries.
A new and highly effective method, termed suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH), has been developed for the generation of subtracted cDNA libraries. It is based primarily on a recently described technique called suppression PCR and combines normalization and subtraction in a single procedure. The normalization step equalizes the abundance of cDNAs with
