1. Lessons and perspectives for applications of stochastic models in biological and cancer research
The effects of randomness, an unavoidable feature of intracellular environments, are observed at higher hierarchical levels of living matter organization, such as cells, tissues, and organisms. Additionally, the many compounds interacting as a well-orchestrated network of reactions increase the difficulties of assessing these systems using only experiments.

2. PERIODIC REVIEW SYSTEM FOR INVENTORY REPLENISHMENT CONTROL FOR A TWO-ECHELON LOGISTICS NETWORK UNDER DEMAND UNCERTAINTY: A TWO-STAGE STOCHASTIC PROGRAMING APPROACH
ABSTRACT Here, we propose a novel methodology for replenishment and control systems for inventories of two-echelon logistics networks using a two-stage stochastic programming, considering periodic review and uncertain demands. In addition, to achieve better customer services, we introduce a variable rationing rule to address quantities of the item in short.

3. A closer look at the main actors of Neotropical floodplain food webs: functional classification and niche overlap of dominant benthic invertebrates in a floodplain lake of Paraná River
ABSTRACT Functional classification of animals is necessary to enhance the predictive power of food web models. However, while there is a large database for functional classification of benthic invertebrates (Functional Feeding Groups, FFG) in the temperate zone, the attribution of individual species of riverine invertebrates is still in its infancies in the

4. BIOSSENSORIAMENTO ESTOCÁSTICO VIA NANOPORO PROTEICO INDIVIDUAL NO DESENVOLVIMENTO DE FERRAMENTAS ANALÍTICAS
Studies employing a single protein nanopore as a molecular recognition element in the development of analytical devices - biosensors, spectrometers, DNA sequencing - have increased considerably in the last decade. Several studies show the potential of these bionanostructures for future stochastic biosensing technology. Stochastic biosensing is an approach

5. A Modified Computational Scheme for the Stochastic Perturbation Finite Element Method
Abstract A modified computational scheme of the stochastic perturbation finite element method (SPFEM) is developed for structures with low-level uncertainties. The proposed scheme can provide second-order estimates of the mean and variance without differentiating the system matrices with respect to the random variables. When the proposed scheme is used, it i

6. Software para simulação de mecanismo de supressão da luminescência: modelo cinético de Stern-Volmer
A software that includes both Stochastic and Molecular Dynamics procedures has been developed with the aim of visualizing the Stern-Volmer kinetic mechanism of dynamic luminescence quenching. The software allows the student to easily simulate and graphically visualize the molecular collisions, the molecular speed distributions, the luminescence decay curves,

7. Early detection of metabolic and energy disorders by thermal time series stochastic complexity analysis
Maintenance of thermal homeostasis in rats fed a high-fat diet (HFD) is associated with changes in their thermal balance. The thermodynamic relationship between heat dissipation and energy storage is altered by the ingestion of high-energy diet content. Observation of thermal registers of core temperature behavior, in humans and rodents, permits identificati

8. Thermodynamic modeling of ternary liquid-liquid systems with forming immiscibility islands
The aim of this work was to study the application of a stochastic algorithm to correlate the experimental data of island-type systems in ternary systems. Thermodynamic NRTL and UNIQUAC models were used to evaluate the activity coefficients. Results regarding the application of the stochastic algorithm were in good agreement with those presented in the curren

9. Decomposition approach for generation and transmission expansion planning with implicit multipliers evaluation
In an electric power systems planning framework, decomposition techniques are usually applied to separate investment and operation subproblems to take benefits from the use of independent solution algorithms. Real power systems planning problems can be rather complex and their detailed representation often leads to greater effort to solve the operation subpr

An important feature in Distance Education is the personal and intelligent assistance, in which an important aspect is that students may have quite different profiles. Thus, a course designed for a particular student may not be suitable for other students. Because of this, a challenge in research is the development of advanced educational applications that p

12. Avalanches e redes complexas no modelo Kinouchi-Copelli / Avalanches and complex networks in Kinouchi-Copelli model
The capacity of a sensory system in efficiently detecting stimuli is usually given by the dynamic range, a simple measure of the range of stimulus intensity over which the network is sensible enough. Many times biological systems exhibit large dynamic ranges, covering many orders of magnitude. There is no easy explanation for that, since individual neurons p
