37. The Effect of Electroless Bath Parameters and Heat Treatment on the Properties of Ni-P and Ni-P-Cu Composite Coatings
Ni-P-(Cu) composite coatings were applied on a St37 steel in an acidic bath of hypophosphite composite. The effect of the concentration of the Cu particles and pH of the solutionon the amount of Ni and P of the coatings, their morphology, and hardness of the coatings were explored. Some of the coated samples were also heat treated at 400ºC for 1 hour. The p

38. The Structure and Composition of Corrosion Product Film and its Relation to Corrosion Rate for Carbon Steels in CO2 Saturated Solutions at Different Temperatures
For carbon steels immersed in CO2 saturated solutions at different temperatures, the structure and the composition of corrosion product film formed on the steel surface were studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The corrosion rate of the steel was evaluated by potentiodynamic polari

39. TiO2 thin Films for Biofouling Applications
This work presents a study of TiO2 thin films prepared by sputtering, for using as protection for biofouling action on marine structures. Titanium oxide thin films were prepared with different amount of oxygen on the surface of regular 1020 steel, a structural material for marine technology. The cristalline structure analysis evidenced the formation of anata

40. Characterization of the Austenite Reformation Mechanisms as a Function of the Initial Ferritic State in a UNS S32304 Duplex Stainless Steel
Aiming to better understand the effects of heat treatment parameters on Ferrite-Austenite phase transformation in a 2304 duplex stainless steel different thermal cycles were applied to this steel in a quenching dilatometer. The obtained microstructures were characterized by optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and electron backscatter diffrac

41. Finite Element Analysis of Reinforced Concrete Beam-Column Connections with Governing Joint Shear Failure Mode
Abstract Reinforced concrete (RC) beam-column connections especially those without transverse reinforcement in joint region can exhibit brittle behavior when intensive damage is concentrated in the joint region during an earthquake event. Brittle behavior in the joint region can compromise the ductile design philosophy and the expected overall performance of

42. Evaluation of the Mechanic and Electrochemical Properties of an Epoxy Coating with Addition of Different Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxanes (POSS) Applied on Substrate of Low Alloy Steel
The epoxy resin is one of the matrices most employed in obtaining composites and coatings. Its properties have been modified using materials such as clays and polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes - POSS. The use of POSS in the preparation of thermosetting nanocomposites has been studied in obtaining hybrid materials with higher mechanic and surface properti

43. Tensile properties of novel carbon/glass hybrid thermoplastic composite rods under static and fatigue loading
ABSTRACT Novel carbon/glass hybrid thermoplastic composite rods have been developed consisting of a PAN-based carbon fiber, an E-glass fiber, and a thermoplastic matrix. Three types of hybrid rods with different carbon/glass ratios were then fabricated. The surface and cross-sectional morphologies of the hybrid rods were observed using a digital microscope.

44. Influence of Tungsten on Dry Sliding Wear Behaviour of Sintered/Hot Extruded P/M Alloy Steels (Fe-C-W-Ti)
In the present scenario, Powder Metallurgy (P/M) is an established manufacturing process used to make components of complex geometries with high strength and tolerances by using incredible materials which are difficult to melt or form by other processes. The mechanical properties and microstructures will determine the component characteristic dependent on th

45. Protic Ionic Liquids Used as Metal-Forming Green Lubricants for Aluminum: Effect of Anion Chain Length
Among the applications for protic ionic liquids (PILs), lubrication is one of the newest and the most promising. In this work, ammonium-based protic ionic liquids were tested as lubricant fluids for aluminum-steel contacts. PILs were synthesized with 2-hydroxyethylamine (2HEA) and a carboxylic acid (formic and pentanoic), aiming to understand the effect of t

46. Evaluation of Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Seamless Steel Pipes API 5L Type Obtained by Different Processes of Heat Treatments
This research presents the influence of manufacturing processes and heat treatments on the resulting microstructures and mechanical properties of an API 5L PSL2 seamless steel pipe. Three different conditions are considered - as rolled, normalized and quenched and tempered - to obtain the grades X42R, X42N and X70Q, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy

47. Nonlinear analysis of steel scaffolds for shoring of concrete structures
Abstract Shoring systems are temporary structures that should resist external loads during the construction of concrete structures. Therefore, the shoring system should have sufficient strength and stiffness to ensure the safety of the concrete structure until it becomes self-supporting. Unfortunately, a large number of accidents occur during the constructio
