1. Feeding behavior of the squirrel Sciurus ingrami (Rodentia: Sciuridae) / Comportamento alimentar do esquilo Sciurus ingrami (Rodentia: Sciuridae)
The objective of this study was to investigate the squirrel?s Sciurus ingrami foraging patterns in palm fruits. In the first chapter, efficiency and learning of different foraging strategies in Syagrus romanzoffiana fruits was assessed. In the second chapter, we compared the occurrence of distinct foraging strategies in Syagrus oleracea and S. romanzoffiana

2. Blood and intestinal parasites of squirrels (Rodentia: Sciuridae) in Amazonian Brazil
We report the result of an examination for blood and intestinal protozoa in 12 specimens of the red squirrel Sciurus spadiceus (Rodentia: Sciuridae) from Birroque, municipality of Plácido de Castro, state of Acre, Brazil. No parasites were detected in thin, Giemsa-stained blood films of the animals, but culture of the blood of three in Difco B45 medium bloo

3. Esquilos Sciurus alphonsei (Mammalia: Rodentia) como dispersores de Attalea oleifera (arecaceae) em remanescentes de Floresta AtlÃntica Nordestina, Brasil
This study investigated the role of the squirrel Sciurus alphonsei Thomas 1906 as a disperser of the fruits of Attalea oleifera Kunth in a remnant of the Atlantic Forest of northeastern Brazil. During 4 months squirrels visits to 15 individuals of palm trees were monitored totaling 118 h of focal tree observations, and 39 visual/vocal records of the animal.

4. Erythropoietic Porphyria of the Fox Squirrel Sciurus niger
Uroporphyrin I is found in high concentration in the bones, teeth, blood, soft tissues, and urine of the fox squirrel, Sciurus niger. The concentration of uroporphyrin in fox squirrel spleen is much higher than in liver, kidney or bone marrow, probably because of accumulation from phagocytosed red cells. Bleeding causes a marked increase in the uroporphyrin

5. A newly identified hepatitis B type virus in tree squirrels.
Virus-associated particles have been isolated from the livers of three common gray tree squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis pennsylvanicus) that have histological evidence of hepatitis. Two of these livers were also positive by orcein staining, suggesting the presence of surface antigen in the cytoplasm of hepatocytes. Fractionation of these particles by CsCl de

6. Ultrastructural changes in the prostate gland of a seasonally breeding mammal, the grey squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis Gmelin).
Grey squirrels were obtained from the wild every month for two calendar years. The prostate gland was found to be a single lobed structure, subdivided into many lobules each of which was composed of numerous secretory acini with central lumina. Secretion was active throughout the breeding season (January to June), but the gland became atrophic from July to S
