1. Ricotta whey supplemented with gelatin and collagen for the encapsulation of probiotic lactic acid bacteria
Abstract The aim of the present study was to evaluate the viability of probiotic bacteria Lactobacillus acidophilus (LA-5)® and Bifidobacterium lactis (BB-12)® encapsulation using spray drying (SD) with ricotta whey supplemented with gelatin and hydrolyzed collagen as encapsulating material. Following previous experiments, these gelatin:collagen ratios wer

2. Mechanical Behavior of Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube Reinforced 7075 Aluminum Alloy Composites Prepared by Mechanical Milling and Hot Extrusion
In this paper, multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized by spray pyrolysis to be used later as material reinforcement in the production of MWCNTs/Al7075 aluminum composites. Both, MWCNTs and MWCNTs/Al7075 composites were microstructurally and mechanically characterized. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis shows MWCNTs formed by multiple

3. B-N Codoped p Type ZnO Thin Films for Optoelectronic Applications
The success of codoping by donor-acceptor impurities in accomplishing p type ZnO thin films deposited by spray pyrolysis technique is reported here. Monodoping ZnO with N altered the conductivity type but the resistivity is too high making it practically impossible to be useful in optoelectronic applications. B-N codoping increased the carrier concentration

4. Microstructure and wear resistance of spray-formed supermartensitic stainless steel
Since the early 90's the oil industry has been encouraging the development of corrosion and wear resistant alloys for onshore and offshore pipeline applications. In this context supermartensitic stainless steel was introduced to replace the more expensive duplex stainless steel for tubing applications. Despite the outstanding corrosion resistance of stainles

5. Estudo do comportamento termomecânico e análise da formação de orientações preferenciais de aços com 6,5% Si conformados por spray / Thermomechanical behavior and texture analysis in Spray formed 6.5% si-carbon steels
Termomechanical behavior of spray formed 6.5% Si-Carbon steels were analyzed by physical simulation, through torsion tests, and the evolution of preferential orientation were analyzed in order to electrical devices. Low carbon steel was used in spray forming, and the parameters were changed in order to minimize porosity. The carbon content in Specimens influ

7. Rapid solidification of an Al-5Ni alloy processed by spray forming
Recently, intermetallic compounds have attracted much attention due to their potential technological applications as high-temperature materials. In particular the intermetallic compounds, associated with the Al-Ni binary system stand out as promising candidates for high-temperature materials for the use in harsh environments. It is expected that a bulk Al-Ni

8. Spray Forming of al Alloys: experiment and theory
Close coupled gas atomization has been studied. Pitot tube gas flow measurements support a postulate of transition from an initial sonic to a supersonic and a final sonic state along the convergence region of the jets. Predictions of the d50 median diameter utilizing a two phase model for primary and secondary break up correlate strongly with experimental re

9. Produção de recobrimentos metálicos a partir de ligas de ferro amorfizáveis / Production of metallic coatings based on amorphous iron alloys
The aim of this work was to study the production of metal coatings from amorphous alloy Fe-25Cr-7Ni-4,5B (wt.%), with special focus on mechanical and microstructure properties. Initially, preliminary studies were made through the production of ribbons and bulks of metallic alloys Fe-25Cr-7Ni-XB (X = 3.5, 4.5, 5.5 wt.%) for the evaluation of amorphous phase f

10. Avaliação da resistência ao desgaste de aços inoxidáveis conformados por spray / Evaluation of the wear resistance of spray formed stainless steel
The aim of this work was the study of the microstructure and the wear resistance of two stainless steels, the ferritic-AIF with 27% Cr and the superduplex-SDM modified with boron (3.5% wt.), processed by spray forming. The rapid solidification promoted by this process has resulted in the formation of a new structure with refined grains and metastable phases.

12. Biological control of coffee rust / Controle biológico da ferrugem do cafeeiro
This thesis is part of a research program aiming to biocontrol coffee rust (Hemileia vastatrix, Hv) in organically-grown coffee. Efficiency of bacterial isolates was compared in two plantations, during 3 years. Isolates B157 (Bacillus sp.) and P286 (Pseudomonas sp.) reduced disease intensity relative to the control; B157 was as efficient as copper hydroxide.
