13. Selection of alfalfa genotypes for resistance to the foliar pathogen Curvularia geniculata
ABSTRACT Foliar diseases impose severe restrictions on the persistence and productivity of Medicago sativa, both of which may be increased by developing disease resistant and more competitive genotypes that can improve pasture quality. We found Curvularia geniculata as the principal alfalfa foliar pathogen in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS). Gr

14. Engineering spray-dried rosemary extracts with improved physicomechanical properties: a design of experiments issue
ABSTRACT A 33 Box–Behnken design and Response Surface Methodology were performed to evaluate the influence of extract feed rate, drying air inlet temperature and spray nozzle airflow rate on the process yield, stability parameters (moisture content and water activity) and on several physicomechanical properties of spray-dried rosemary extracts. Powder yiel

16. Spray Drying of Pequi Pulp: Process Performance and Physicochemical and Nutritional Properties of the Powdered Pulp
The objective of this work was to optimize the spray drying of pequi pulp using maltodextrin as carrier agent and Tween 80 as surfactant agent. A central composite rotatable design was used to evaluate the influence of inlet air temperature (140 to 200°C), maltodextrin (15 to 30%) and surfactant (0 to 5%) concentration on the process performance and physico

ABSTRACTThere is a great interest in the steel industry to incorporate new products in the market with better properties of those already in production. Among these properties, corrosion resistance is of great importance for countries with a large marine seacoast, like Chile, where chloride ions from sea spray produce corrosion, leading to irreversible failu

19. Biological control of tomato bacterial spot by seed microbiolization
Six plant growth promoting rhizobacteria isolates - two Streptomyces (DFs1296 and DFs1315), three Bacillus (DFs1414, DFs1420 and DFs1423) and one Pseudomonas (DFs1421) - were used to microbiolize tomato seeds for the control of bacterial spot caused by Xanthomonas gardneri. Three assays were conducted in a completely randomized design with six replications.

20. Drying of α-amylase by spray drying and freeze-drying - a comparative study
This study is aimed at comparing two traditional methods of drying of enzymes and at verifying the efficiency of each one and their advantages and disadvantages. The experiments were performed with a laboratory spray dryer and freeze-dryer using α-amylase as the model enzyme. An experimental design in star revealed that spray drying is mainly influenced by

23. Atmospheric particle dry deposition of major ions to the South Atlantic coastal area observed at Baía de Todos os Santos, Brazil
