13. Nickel exposure from keys: a Brazilian issue
Abstract: Keys are a significant source of exposure to metal allergens and can be a relevant problem for nickel-allergic individuals. This study aimed to perform nickel and cobalt spot testing among the 5 most common Brazilian brands of keys. Among the tested keys, 100% showed positive result to nickel spot test, 83,3% presented strong positive reaction. 50%

14. Effect of silver nanoparticles on the physicochemical and antimicrobial properties of an orthodontic adhesive
ABSTRACT Orthodontic treatment with fixed brackets plays a major role on the formation of white spot lesions. Objective This study aimed to incorporate silver nanoparticle solutions (AgNP) in an orthodontic adhesive and evaluate its physicochemical and antimicrobial properties. Material and Methods Silver nanoparticle solutions were added to a commercial

15. DNA damage protective effect of honey-sweetened cashew apple nectar in Drosophila melanogaster
Abstract Fruits and derivatives, such as juices, are complex mixtures of chemicals, some of which may have mutagenic and/or carcinogenic potential, while others may have antimutagenic and/or anticancer activities. The modulating effects of honey-sweetened cashew apple nectar (HSCAN), on somatic mutation and recombination induced by ethyl methanesulfonate (EM

16. Experimental Study of Tensile Test in Resistance Spot Welding Process
Abstract Resistance spot welding (RSW) is a widely used joining process for fabricating sheet metal assemblies in automobile industry .In comparison with other welding processes the RSW is faster and easier for automation. This process involves electrical, thermal and mechanical interactions. Resistance spot welding primarily takes place by localized melting

17. Whisker-mediated transformation of peanut with chitinase gene enhances resistance to leaf spot disease
Abstract Peanut (Arachis hypogaea) is an important legume and oilseed crop, native to South America and grown in all tropical and temperate regions of the world. A simplified and rapid direct gene delivery system in peanut was developed by vortexing silicon carbide whiskers with callus and with plasmid harboring chitinase and hygromcin genes. The effects of

18. Evaluation of the remineralization capacity of CPP-ACP containing fluoride varnish by different quantitative methods
ABSTRACT Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of CPP-ACP containing fluoride varnish for remineralizing white spot lesions (WSLs) with four different quantitative methods. Material and Methods Four windows (3x3 mm) were created on the enamel surfaces of bovine incisor teeth. A control window was covered with nail varnish, and WSLs

19. Rapid Determination of Lead in Progressive Hair Dye Lotion by Spot Test/Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy with a Paper Platform
A simple, inexpensive, and clean methodology employing a combined spot test/diffuse reflectance spectroscopy procedure was developed and applied for the quality control analysis of lead in hair dyes, using a filter paper platform. The method is based on the complexation reaction of lead, present in a pH 2.8 buffer medium containing tartaric acid and sodium a

20. Mycobacterium tuberculosis epitope-specific interferon-g production in healthy Brazilians reactive and non-reactive to tuberculin skin test
The interferon (IFN)-γ response to peptides can be a useful diagnostic marker of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) latent infection. We identified promiscuous and potentially protective CD4+ T-cell epitopes from the most conserved regions of MTB antigenic proteins by scanning the MTB antigenic p

21. First report of Curtobacterium flaccumfaciens pv. flaccumfaciens on soybean in Brazil
Curtobacterium flaccumfaciens pv. flaccumfaciens (Cff) causes bacterial wilt on beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) and bacterial tan spot on soybeans (Glycine max). Cff was detected on beans in Brazil in 1995. Plants of commercial and experimental fields of soybean with typical symptoms of the disease were collected in the State of Paraná, Brazil, during the 2011/2

23. Optimized microlens-array geometry for Hartmann-Shack wavefront sensor: design, fabrication and test
The Hartmann-Shack (H-S) wavefront sensor is now deployed in many different fields, from astronomy to industrial inspection, where the quality of optical media or components can be measured by the distortions (wavefront aberrations) they impart on a wavefront transmitted or reflected by them. In ophthalmology, this sensor is a core component of major aberrom
