1. Spontaneous vegetative propagules differentiation in Bowdichia virgilioides seedlings maintained at MS basal medium
ABSTRACT Bowdichia virgilioides Kunth is a medium size tree used in folk medicine and in furniture manufacturing which makes it a target of extractive processes. The aim of this work was to evaluate the endogenous content of polyamines, amino acids, and sugars in seedlings of Bowdichia virgilioides that presented or not the development of spontaneously diffe

2. Decreased plasmatic spermidine and increased spermine in mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease patients
Abstract Background Current evidence suggests that upregulation of polyamines system plays a role both in cognitive deficit and synaptic loss observed in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Objective The aim of this study was to determine the plasmatic concentration of polyamines in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and AD patients in comparison with healthy contr

4. Mineral content, phenolic compounds and bioactive amines of cheese bread enriched with cowpea
ABSTRACT Cheese bread presents great acceptance and market expansion. Due to the lack of standardization in its manufacturing, various ingredients can be added. It was aimed to determine the content of minerals, bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity in cheese bread enriched with biofortified cowpea. Two formulations were prepared, standard cheese brea

5. COMPOSIÇÃO QUÍMICA, ATIVIDADE ANTIRADICALAR E ANTIMICROBIANA DO PÓLEN APÍCOLA DE FABACEAE
The aim of this investigation was to analyze two samples of pollen collected by Apis mellifera bees in view of their chemical composition, antiradicalar and antimicrobial activities. Palynological analysis showed that the predominant pollen was Fabaceae species (42.3%, sample I and 50.6%, sample II). The characterization by ultra-performance liquid chromatog

6. Overexpression of eukaryotic initiation factor 5A (eIF5A) affects susceptibility to benznidazole in Trypanosoma cruzi populations
Eukaryotic initiation factor 5A (eIF5A) is a conserved protein with an essential role in translation elongation. Using one and two-dimensional western blotting, we showed that the eIF5A protein level was 2-fold lower in benznidazole (BZ)-resistant (BZR and 17LER) Trypanosoma cruzi populations than in their respective susceptible counterparts (BZS and 17WTS).

7. Bioactive compounds and juice quality from selected grape cultivars
ABSTRACT Grape juices have been valued due to their potential health benefits, which have demanded increased grape productivity and quality. Five grape cultivars grown in Brazil, Isabel Precoce, Carmem, Violeta, Concord and Bordo were evaluated in 2013 and 2014 seasons for bioactive components and also for juice processing quality traits. Production cycle wa

8. Spermidine alkaloid from Banara parviflora
ABSTRACT Banara parviflora (A. Gray) Benth. is a species that belongs to Salicaceae family and is native to Southern Brazil. Fractionation of the ethanolic extract from Banara parviflora leaves afforded, a new compound identified as N 1,N 8-dibenzoylspermidinyl-N 4-acetamide, a spermidine alkaloid. The structure was elucidated by spectroscopic methods (IR, M

9. Ozonated water and chlorine effects on the antioxidant properties of organic and conventional broccoli during postharvest
There is growing interest in studies on sanitizers other than chlorine that can maintain the quality of organic products without affecting their phytochemical content. The effects of using chlorinated and ozonized water treatments, as sanitizing procedures, on the post-harvest quality of organic and conventional broccoli (Brassica oleracea L.) cv. Italica wa

10. The influences of fish infusion broth on the biogenic amines formation by lactic acid bacteria
The influences of fish infusion decarboxylase broth (IDB) on biogenic amines (BA) formation by lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were investigated. BA productions by single LAB strains were tested in five different fish (anchovy, mackerel, white shark, sardine and gilthead seabream) IDB. The result of the study showed that significant differences in ammonia (AMN) a
