13. On the Neotropical spider genus Eurymorion (Araneae: Linyphiidae)
The Neotropical genus of spider Eurymorion includes, until now, only two species: E. insigne (Millidge, 1991) and E. nobile (Millidge, 1991); both known only by males from the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo (Southeastern Brazil), respectively. The genus is diagnosed mainly by the male palp with a small paracymbium and by the prolonged and medially c

14. A new species of Psilocymbium with the description of the male and new records of P. lineatum at South Brazil (Araneae: Linyphiidae)
The Neotropical genus Psilocymbium Millidge, 1991 can be recognized by the presence of a non-flagelliform, rigid and spiral shaped embolus, the absence of a cymbial basal excavation on the palp (males), and by having prolonged spermathecae on the epigynum and strong pedipalp setae (females). In this paper Psilocymbium antonina sp. nov., is described based on

15. Notes on the neotropical genus Macrinus (Araneae: Sparassidae)
Macrinus Simon, 1887 can be diagnosed by the twisted tegulum with a distal retrolateral laminar projection and the fulcrum with a prolateral serrated projection on the male palp and by the copulatory ducts with an anterior, fused hyaline part and a median long and sclerotized part ending at a slightly rounded spermathecae in the female epigynum. The genus cu

16. Description of Evandromyia grimaldii sp. nov. (Diptera: Psychodidae), a new phlebotomine species from the state of Espírito Santo, Southeast Brazil
Phlebotomine sand flies present great species diversity, especially in Brazil, where there are about 300 known species. This work describes a new species of sand fly found in the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo, in the Reserva Biológica de Duas Bocas, municipality of Cariacica. Spermathecae with superficial striations and the common duct longer than the

17. A new species of Goeldia (Araneae: Titanoecidae) with notes on its natural history
A new species of Goeldia Keyserling, 1891 is described. Goeldia is the only genus of Titanoecidae with species in the Neotropical region and includes eight species diagnosed by the presence of a patellar process in the male palp. The new species, Goeldia zyngierae sp. nov., was found living inside the Casa de Pedra cave, Ribeira, Itabaiana, Sergipe, Brazil.

18. Histology and Histochemistry of the Reproductive Tract of Melipona quadrifasciata anthidioides (Hymenoptera, Apidae) in Virgin and Physogastric Queens / Histologia e histoquímica do aparelho reprodutor de Melipona quadrifasciata anthidioides (Hymenoptera, Apidae) em rainhas virgens e copuladas
Due to the economic and ecological importance, and the extinction risk that Meliponini is experiencing, many works were developed in search of understanding of reproductive biology of these bees. The importance of the mating for ovaries development and oocytes maturation in insects has been investigated, but there are few research concerning the consequences

19. Estudo ultra-estrutural da espermiogenese e dos espermatozoides de Cosmopolites sordidus germar (Coleoptera : Curculionidae)
The spermiogenesis of Cosmopolites sordidus was investigated with the use of thin sections, negative staining preparations, and scanning electron microsoopy of spermatic cells obtained from the testicles or spermathecae.1n this species as with insects in general, this process is characterized by the following events: flagellar formation, chromatin condensati

21. Developmental Expression of the Glucose Dehydrogenase Gene in Drosophila Melanogaster
The Gld gene of Drosophila melanogaster is transiently expressed during every stage of development. The temporal pattern of Gld expression is highly correlated with that of ecdysteroids. Exogeneous treatment of third instar larvae with 20-hydroxyecdysone induces the accumulation of Gld mRNA in the hypoderm and anterior spiracular gland cells. During metamorp

22. Selective Loss of Sperm Bearing a Compound Chromosome in the Drosophila Female
The Drosophila compound entire second chromosome, C(2)EN, displays paternal transmission well below Mendelian expectations (NOVITSKI et al. 1981). Because C(2)EN stocks also show higher-than-expected rates of zygotic lethality, it was proposed that this reduced paternal inheritance might be wholly or partially due to postfertilization events. Efforts to inve

23. Contribution of the GTPase Domain to the Subcellular Localization of Dynamin in the Nematode Caenorhabditis elegans
Caenorhabditis elegans dynamin is expressed at high levels in neurons and at lower levels in other cell types, consistent with the important role that dynamin plays in the recycling of synaptic vesicles. Indirect immunofluorescence showed that dynamin is concentrated along the dorsal and ventral nerve cords and in the synapse-rich nerve ring. Green fluo

24. Tissue Localization of the Endosymbiotic Bacterium “Candidatus Blochmannia floridanus” in Adults and Larvae of the Carpenter Ant Camponotus floridanus
The distribution of endosymbiotic bacteria in different tissues of queens, males, and workers of the carpenter ant Camponotus floridanus was investigated by light and electron microscopy and by in situ hybridization. A large number of bacteria could be detected in bacteriocytes within the midguts of workers, young virgin queens, and males. Large amounts of b
