1. Synthesis, Spectroscopic Characterization, DFT Calculations and Preliminary Antifungal Activity of New Piperine Derivatives
Four new piperine derivatives, PC1-PC4, were synthesized, and their structures were fully characterized by infrared (IR) and 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopies. Quantum chemical calculations were performed using density functional theory (DFT) with the B3LYP-D3/6-31G(d,p) and 6-311+G(2d,p) basis sets. Electronic properties, such as th

2. Sunlight-Driven Dehydrogenative Oxidation Photocatalysis by a Mononuclear Complex Acting as both Chromophore and Catalyst
Under simulated solar irradiation in the visible spectral region, the catalytically active RuIV-oxo species [Ru(O)(bpy)(tppz)]2+ (tppz = tetrapyridylpyrazine, a strongly π-accepting tridentate N, N, N-ligand) is produced directly from a single metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) photoexcitation of the resting RuII-aquo complex [Ru(H2O)(bpy)(tppz)]2+ in a

3. Synthesis, Characterization, Absorption and Fastness Properties of Novel Monoazo Dyes Derived from 1-Phenyl-3-amino-4-(2-thiazolilazo)pyrazol-5-one
Monosubstitute thiazolyl amines were diazotized in acetic acid, coupled to 1-phenyl-3-aminopyrazol-5-one (1a-1c) and acetylated to obtain the 2a-2c dyes. The dyes were characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic (Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), ultraviolet (UV)) methods. The effects on the visible absorption spe

4. Copaifera multijuga, Copaifera pubiflora and Copaifera trapezifolia Oleoresins: Chemical Characterization and in vitro Cytotoxic Potential against Tumoral Cell Lines
Copaifera species (Fabaceae) comprises approximately 70 species of large trees, from which 16 can be found in Brazil. The oleoresins obtained from their trunk are widely used in Brazilian folk medicine, which display important antitumoral potential. Chemically, these oleoresins are mainly composed of a mixture of sesquiterpenes and diterpenes. In this paper

5. Evaluation of Carbon Nanotubes/Polyaniline Thin Films for Development of Electrochemical Sensors
Thin films of multiwalled carbon nanotubes/polyaniline nanocomposites (CNT/PAni) were synthesized through the liquid/liquid (L/L) interfacial route, deposited over glass substrates, and evaluated through cyclic voltammetry and amperometry as electrochemical sensor, using L-ascorbic acid as probe. Films with three different CNT/PAni ratios have been prepared.

6. 3-Aminofurostane Alkaloids from Solanum paniculatum (“Jurubeba Verdadeira”) Roots
The roots of Solanum paniculatum (Solanaceae) have extensively been used in folk medicine to treat liver infections and as a diuretic. Ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS) were used for the profiling and structural characterization of alkaloids from the roots of S. paniculatum. Six

7. SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF NEW Cu (II), Co (II) AND Sn (II) COMPLEXES WITH THE SODIUM HYDROTRIS(2-MERCAPTOTHIAZOLYL)BORATE LIGAND
The emergence of antibiotic resistance among microbial pathogens is a serious public health problem, resulting in a constant need of discovering new antibiotics. For this purpose, we synthetized and determined the antimicrobial activity of copper (Cu), cobalt (Co), and tin (Sn) complexes coordinated with scorpionate ligand in a tridentate mode against microo

8. SPECTROSCOPIC CHARACTERIZATION OF PEDOT:PSS CONDUCTING POLYMER BY RESONANCE RAMAN AND SERRS SPECTROSCOPIES
Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) synthesis was monitored by resonance Raman (RR) and surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) spectroscopies and both the oxidation of the polymer and the effects of chain length were assessed by vibrational analysis. It was supported by theoretical models of oligomers, with charge

9. INFLUENCE OF PRETREATMENTS ON CRYSTALLINITY AND ENZYMATIC HYDROLYSIS IN SUGAR CANE RESIDUES
ABSTRACT This research evaluated the effect of different delignification pretreatments (enzymatic and organosolv), on the crystallinity and enzymatic hydrolysis of harvested sugar cane residues. The Crystallinity Index (CrI), the Relative Number of Intensity (Ir), the degree of cellulose mercerization (IIC-%), and the Global Index of Saccharification (GIS) w

10. A Simple and High-yield Synthesis of Hexadecyl Ferulate and Its In Vitro Antioxidant Potential
ABSTRACT Ferulic acid (FA) is a phenolic compound with well-known antioxidant potential that can be used as a promising anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer molecule. Furthermore, it has been reported to have neuroprotective activity. One of the main problems, which limit its clinical use, is its low bioavailability when administered orally. This limitation can

11. Mineral inclusions in diamonds from Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, Brazil: a Raman spectroscopic characterization
Abstract The Chapada Diamantina, located in the central region of the State of Bahia, is of important historical significance due to its diamond occurrences. Discovered in the nineteenth century, comprehensive research about the regional diamonds and their origins are still limited, demanding more investigation in the matter. Looking for insights about their
