13. Patterns of influenza B circulation in Brazil and its relevance to seasonal vaccine composition
Abstract Data on the burden of disease and circulation patterns of influenza B lineages for Brazil are limited. This review aims to describe the pattern of influenza B occurrence in Brazil to have a better understanding of its epidemiology and its relevance when considering seasonal influenza vaccine composition. A review of the data including analysis of in

14. Halophila baillonis Ascherson: first population dynamics data for the Southern Hemisphere

15. The feeding habits of the eyespot skate Atlantoraja cyclophora (Elasmobranchii: Rajiformes) in southeastern Brazil
The stomach contents of the eyespot skate, Atlantoraja cyclophora (Regan, 1903), were examined with the goal to provide information about the diet of the species. Samples were collected off the southern coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, near Ilha Grande, between January 2006 and August 2007, at a depth of about 60 m. The diet was analyzed by sex, maturity sta

16. History, distribution, and seasonal abundance of the Least Tern Sternula antillarum (Aves: Charadriiformes: Sternidae) in Brazil
We review existing data on the distribution of the Least Tern, Sternula antillarum along the Brazilian coast, based on the literature and museum specimens, and present results of a year-long study (October 2008 to September 2009) on the seasonal abundance of this species on a large tidal flat area, Cajuais Bank, in the State of Ceará, north-eastern Brazil.

17. Variabilidade climática e correlação entre TSM e vazão fluvial nos rios Amazonas e Negro / Climate variability of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and flow of the rivers Amazonas and Negro
Climate variability is a complex system generated by the participation of various actors and their role in atmospheric dynamics, the Sea Surface Temperature(SST) plays a key role in influencing the several features of the climate indexes: Southern Hemisphere Cancel Index Mode (SAM), Southern Oscillation Index (SOI), El Nino / Southern Oscillation (ENSO), (TN

18. Impactos de mudanças nos ventos de oeste do Hemisfério Sul no vazamento das Agulhas / Impacts of changes in the Southern Hemisphere westerlies in the Agulhas leakage

19. Análise populacional genética de Larus dominicanus através do uso de microssatélites / Population genetic analysis of Larus dominicanus using microsatellites
The changes in the coast that has been caused by human action has led to impacts on species associated with this environment. Larus dominicanus is a seabird species widely distributed throughout the Southern Hemisphere. The generalist feeding habits allow this species take advantage from human action, leading to population growth, which is also observed in o

20. Genetic variability in mitochondrial and nuclear genes of Larus dominicanus (Charadriiformes, Laridae) from the Brazilian coast
Several phylogeographic studies of seabirds have documented low genetic diversity that has been attributed to bottleneck events or individual capacity for dispersal. Few studies have been done in seabirds on the Brazilian coast and all have shown low genetic differentiation on a wide geographic scale. The Kelp Gull is a common species with a wide distributio

21. A case of myopericarditis associated to Campylobacter jejuni infection in the southern hemisphere
Myopericarditis is an infrequent complication of acute diarrheal illness due to Campylobacter jejuni, and it has been mainly reported in developed nations. The first case detected in Chile - an upper-middle income country -, that is coincidental with the increasing importance of acute gastroenteritis associated to this pathogen, is described. Recognition of

22. DNA multigene sequencing of topotypic specimens of the fascioliasis vector Lymnaea diaphana and phylogenetic analysis of the genus Pectinidens (Gastropoda)
Freshwater lymnaeid snails are crucial in defining transmission and epidemiology of fascioliasis. In South America, human endemic areas are related to high altitudes in Andean regions. The species Lymnaea diaphana has, however, been involved in low altitude areas of Chile, Argentina and Peru where human infection also occurs. Complete nuclear ribosomal DNA 1

24. Potenciais influências de anomalias positivas e negativas na camada de gelo marinho no mar de Ross na circulação atmosférica do Hemisfério Sul / Potential influences on the southern hemisphere atmospheric circulation of negative and positive sea ice extension anomalies in the ross sea
This study have used the CPTEC/INPE AGCM to explore the role of sea ice extent in the Ross Sea as a forcing of the asymmetric atmospheric circulation in the southern hemisphere during the austral winter (July-September), on a seasonal scale. The impacts have been assessed from the standpoint of positive and negative observed anomalies in ice extent in the Ro
