1. Comparison of automated irrigation systems using an in vitro ureteroscopy model
ABSTRACT Introduction: Two automated irrigation systems have been released for use during endoscopic procedures such as ureteroscopy: the Cogentix RocaFlow® (CRF) and Thermedx FluidSmart® (TFS). Accurate pressure control using automated systems may help providers maintain irrigation pressures within a safe range while also providing clear visualization. O

2. Antifungal and Photocatalytic Activity of Smart Paint Containing Porous Microspheres of TiO2
In this study, porous microspheres of TiO2 (µTiO2) were synthesized, characterized and incorporated into an acrylic paint formulation to obtain a photocatalytically active paint. In a novel approach, the antifungal properties of the µTiO2 paint were evaluated using Monascus ruber as the representative microorganism and compared to those of a photocatalyst-

3. A randomized, prospective clinical study evaluating effectiveness of a bulk-fill composite resin, a conventional composite resin and a reinforced glass ionomer in Class II cavities: one-year results
Abstract Bulk-fill restorative materials such as bulk-fill composite resins and high viscous glass ionomer cements have become very popular materials in operative dentistry because their application is easy and time-saving. Objectives: The aim of this clinical study was to evaluate the clinical performance of a highly viscous reinforced glass ionomer materi

4. Modular modeling approach for FDM printed structures and piezo disks for metamaterial design
Abstract Research in metamaterials has recently gained interest in the field of noise and vibration control. The ability of creating band gap zones with minimum added mass is the main feature behind its success. In addition, the use of 3D printed parts, particularly the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), offers a practical solution for manufacturing parts with

6. Development of dual-sensitive smart polymers by grafting chitosan with poly (
N -isopropylacrylamide): an overviewAbstract A great deal of research on polymers over the past two decades has been focused on the development of stimuli-responsive polymers to obtain materials able to respond to specific surroundings. In this paper, an overview is presented of the concepts, behavior and applicability of these “smart polymers”. Polymers that are temperatu

7. A Numerical Study on Smart Material Selection for Flapped and Twisted Morphing Wing Configurations
ABSTRACT: The developments of innovative adaptive structures on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), such as morphing wings, can potentially reduce system complexities by eliminating control surfaces and their auxiliary equipment. This technology has the potential of allowing a UAV to adapt to different mission requirements or to execute a particular mission mor

8. A bending element for isotropic, multilayered and piezoelectric plates
In this paper, a new 12-node triangular element is developed for the analysis of composite plates. Moreover, the stress-strain relations of laminated bending plates, along with the characteristics of composite and piezoelectric materials have also been investigated. Following this, a finite element formulation for smart composite bending plates is proposed.

9. Effective properties evaluation for smart composite materials
The purpose of this article is to present a method which consists in the development of unit cell numerical models for smart composite materials with piezoelectric fibers made of PZT embedded in a non-piezoelectric matrix (epoxy resin). This method evaluates a globally homogeneous medium equivalent to the original composite, using a representative volume ele

11. Nonlinear dynamics of a SMA large-scale space structure
Large-scale structures are of special interest of aerospace applications, especially the ones involving smart materials. This paper deals with an archetypal system with two degrees of freedom that resembles the use of SMA elements as vibration isolation systems on a sparse aperture satellite array. The system has SMA elements in two perpendicular directions
