In this work, the materials used in the recovery of estrogens from aqueous matrices by filtration and solid phase extraction were evaluated. The results showed that glass-fiber filters allow a recovery and repeatability compatible with this type of analysis, whereas cellulose esters lead to significant losses of the analytes, mainly due to adsorption process

The evaluation of patients with arterial disease includes the determination of arterial flow in the lower limbs. In this study, we compared the usefulness of US-Duplex and plethysmography for assessing arterial blood flow and the possible causes of errar associated with these procedures. Methods: For experimental evaluation of the US-Duplex, we used a system

4. New silicone tipped cannulas for subretinal fluid drainage.
Two new disposable cannulas for internal drainage of subretinal fluid are described in this article. We describe a curved and a straight version consisting of plastic hubs, 20 gauge proximal and 25 gauge distal stainless steel hypodermic tubing, and soft and flexible silicone tubing overmounts. Both these cannulas facilitate atraumatic drainage of subretinal

6. Production of cells and viruses in a new multiple-tube tissue culture propagator.
A novel method for large-scale culture of anchorage-dependent cells is described. Culture vessels were constructed by using roller bottles and Pyrex tubing. Parallel glass tubes, equally spaced by silicone rings and inserted into the roller bottles, provided an increased culture area. The roller bottles were fitted with a second opening for medium recirculat

7. Effect of microwave radiation on inactivation of Clostridium sporogenes (PA 3679) spores.
Three techniques for studying effects of microwave radiation on microorganisms were introduced. Spores of Clostridium sporogenes (PA 3679) were chosen as a test organism because the kinetic parameters for thermal inactivation are well known and because of the importance of the genus Clostridium to the food industry. For the first technique, a specially desig
