1. Distribution of phytoestrogenic diarylheptanoids and sesquiterpenoids components in Curcuma comosa rhizomes and its related species
Abstract Curcuma comosa Roxb., Zingiberaceae, a phytoestrogen-producing herb with vernacularly named "Wan Chak Mod Loog" in Thailand, has been traditionally used for treatment of gynecologic diseases and sold as food supplement in the market. However, similar rhizomes of its related species may lead to the confusion in the uses of this plant. This study was

2. Update: Biological and Chemical Aspects of Senna spectabilis
Senna spectabilis (syn Cassia spectabilis) is one of the most important species within the Fabaceae family, natively found in Central and South America, as well as parts of Asia and Africa. Due to the extensive geographical distribution, this fast-growing tree produces a wide variety of bioactive secondary metabolites, being of special interest for chemical

3. Sesquiterpenoids from Nectandra megapotamica (Lauraceae)
Five sesquiterpenoid oxides, named nectandrene A, B, C, D, and E, were isolated from the essential oil of the leaves of Nectandra megapotamica. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis, and the relative configurations were proposed by their nuclear Overhauser effect (NOESY) spectrum. Three of these isolated compounds displayed significant a

4. Folk medicine, phytochemistry and pharmacological application of Piper marginatum
ABSTRACT Piper marginatum Jacq., Piperaceae, is a widely distributed Neotropical species abundant in the Caribbean, exhibiting a characteristic winged petiole and a heart-shaped leaf, its two vegetative landmarks for rapid identification. The species has been employed by traditional indigenous cultures for its reputed medicinal properties. The plant is most

5. Chemical composition and antibacterial activity of Aloysia triphylla (L'Hérit) Britton extracts obtained by pressurized CO2 extraction
This study investigated the chemical composition of five different extracts of Aloysia triphylla and their activity against Aeromonas sp. The extracts were obtained from the dried leaves by pressurized CO2 extraction at 30, 50 and 70ºC, and 100, 150, and 200 bar, and analyzed by GC/FID and GC-MS. The antibacterial activity was assayed by the microdilution m

6. Chemical constituents and evaluation of cytotoxic and antifungal activity of Lantana camara essential oils
The essential oil (EO) of aerial parts of Lantana camara L., Verbenaceae, from Simões, Piaui, Northeast of Brazil, were obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC-FID and GC-MS techniques. In total, 68 compounds were identified. The most representative compounds of the oil were mono and sesquiterpenes. The main compounds found in the oil of the leaves

7. Antifungal activity of Piper diospyrifolium Kunth (Piperaceae) essential oil
In vitro activity of the essential oil from Piper diospyrifolium leaves was tested using disk diffusion techniques. The antifungal assay showed significant potencial antifungal activity: the oil was effective against several clinical fungal strains. The majority compounds in the essential oil were identified as sesquiterpenoids by GC-MS and GC-FID techniques

8. Preparative separation and purification of sesquiterpenoids from tussilago farfara l. by high-speed counter-current chromatography
Preparative high-speed counter-current chromatography (HSCCC) was successfully applied for separation and purification of sesquiterpenoids from an extract of Tussilago farfara L. with a two-phase solvent system composed of n-hexane-ethyl acetate- methanol-water (1:0.5:1.1:0.3, v/v/v/v). The separation produced a total of 32 mg of tussilagone, 18 mg of 14-ace

9. Variabilidade sazonal e biossíntese de terpenóides presentes no óleo essencial de Lippia alba (Mill.) N. E. Brown (Verbenaceae)
The essential oil of the leaves of Lippia alba chemotype linalool-1,8-cineol was extracted by hidrodistillation at different seasons and analyzed by GC/MS. Qualitative and quantitative variations in regard to the period of harvesting have been performed and the results were correlated with meteorological data. The essential oil yield varied from 0.33 to 0.67

10. Estudo fitoquímico da madeira de Guarea macrophylla (Meliaceae)
In the present work, the crude ethanol extract from wood of G. macrophylla was submitted to liquid/liquid partition between hexane, CH2Cl2, EtOAc and n-BuOH. Each phase was individually chromatographed over silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 or Amberlite XAD-2 to give eight terpene derivatives, such as five sesquiterpenoids (caryophyllene oxide, guai-6-en-10β-ol, s

11. A potent trypanocidal component from the fungus Lentinus strigosus inhibits trypanothione reductase and modulates PBMC proliferation
The fungus Lentinus strigosus (Pegler 1983) (Polyporaceae, basidiomycete) was selected in a screen for inhibitory activity on Trypanosoma cruzi trypanothione reductase (TR). The crude extract of L. strigosus was able to completely inhibit TR at 20 µg/ml. Two triquinane sesquiterpenoids (dihydrohypnophilin and hypnophilin), in addition to two panepoxydol der
