1. Combinatorial analysis of agronomic characters in soybean

2. Rbc2, a new dominant gene for resistance of soybean to Cowpea mild mottle virus: Inheritance and mapping
Abstract The objective of this work was to study the inheritance of soybean resistance to Soybean Steam Necrosis (SSN) and to map the resistance gene(s), using an F2 population from the cross between the soybean cultivars BRS 133 (resistant) and CD 206 (susceptible). A phenotypic evaluation was performed under controlled conditions, in a greenhouse. In a pop

3. Mapping and allelic sequencing of a long sterile lemma trait in rice
ABSTRACT Some outer floral organs are unique in gramineous plants, like the sterile lemma and rudimentary glume in rice. However, their development mechanisms are still poorly understood. In this study, we used 4 mutants with long sterile lemma (LSL), named JF11, JF12, JF13 and JNY-7, to be crossed with Aijiaonante (AJNT) and Nipponbare (NIP), respectively.

4. Heterosis and genetic parameters for grain quality in oat segregating populations
ABSTRACT Improvement of quality-related traits of grains is a constant concern in white oat breeding programs, which challenges breeders to understand their dynamics. The performance of different genetic combinations must be thoroughly evaluated to make high nutritional quality cultivars available. This study aimed to estimate the heterosis on F1 and F2 gene

5. Análise morfológica, bioquímica e genética do brilho do tegumento em variedades de feijoeiro (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) / Morphological, biochemical and genetic analysis of seed coat shininess in common bean varieties (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)
Several characteristics interfere in acceptability of common bean varieties (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) by consumers, like seed coat shininess. Generally, varieties with shiny seed coat are rejected by consumers due to their difficult cooking. However, shininess could confer resistance to insects attak and also pathogens to the seed, giving an advantage for this

6. Breeding potential of single, double and multiple crosses in common bean.
This common bean study was carried out to improve the understanding of the several strategies that can be used to obtain segregant populations in self-pollinating plant breeding programs. Eight inbred lines were crossed in a pyramidal form, and four single, two double and one multiple hybrid were obtained. The potential of the different hybrids was investiga

8. Selection strategies of segregant soybean populations for resistance to Asian rust.
Abstract ? The objective of this work was to identify the for the more promising parental combinations to obtain lines with good resistance to soybean Asian rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi). Two experiments were carried out in the field during the 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 growing seasons, to determine the percentage of infected leaf area of individual plants of f

9. Comparison of methods for conducting segregant populations for fiber content.
This research had study the genetic variability of the trait in Brazilian genotypes and had the following objectives: to quantify the content of crude fiber in populations conducted by three breeding methods, to verify if there is genetic variability among genotypes and to compare the methods utilized.

10. Inheritance of coffee leaf rust reistance and identification of AFLP markers linked to the resistance gene.
The most important disease of Coffea arabica is coffee leaf rust caused by the fungus Hemileia vastatrix. The purpose of this study was to characterize the inheritance of coffee resistance gene(s) to race II of this pathogen and to identify and map molecular markers linked to this trait. Different populations were used: F2 (160 plants), BCr (20), and BCs (13

12. Eficiência de métodos de condução de população segregante de feijoeiro comum para teor de proteína. / Efficiency evaluation of conducting methods for segregant population of common bean by the protein meaning
The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is part of the daily diet of more than 300 million people worldwide, being an essential food for low income human populations, since it is a cheaper protein source. The beans protein content can be improved by breeding programs since the existence of genetic variability for this character can be explored. It is importa
