1. An Alternative Inactivant for Rift Valley Fever Virus using Cobra Venom-derived L-Amino Oxidase, which is Related to its Immune Potential
ABSTRACT Vaccine improvement depends on the formulation, adjuvant type and inactivant used. The type of formulation may interfere with immunogenicity. The present work aimed to evaluate the inactivation activity and related immune potential of the Cobra venom-derived LAO enzyme compared to the currently used inactivants (BPL and formalin) for both animal and

2. THE EFFECT OF CICHORIUM INTYBUS L. ETHANOL EXTRACTION ON THE PATHOLOGICAL AND BIOMEDICAL INDEXES OF THE LIVER AND KIDNEY OF BROILERS REARED UNDER HEAT STRESS
ABSTRACT The use of compounds with antioxidant properties as a source of phelanoeid compounds is highly recommendable in the poultry industry. Therefore, the effect of Cichorium intybus L. herb on pathobiochemical indexes of chicken under heat stress was studied. After exposure to heat stress (from day 21 to day 42 of growth), hydroalcoholic extraction was p

3. Development of a Powder-feed Device and Procedures for the Application of an Experimental Alloy in Overhead PTA-P Welding
Abstract: When they are damaged by cavitation, hydroelectric power plant turbine blades must be repaired using operations that could benefit from developments in welding technologies. In light of this, the LABSOLDA welding laboratory at the Federal University of Santa Catarina is making efforts to enhance the flexibility and robustness of the powder-fed plas

4. A prospective study of venous hemodynamics and quality of live at least five years after varicose vein stripping
PURPOSE: To assess venous hemodynamics and quality of life at lest five years after varicose vein stripping. METHODS: We conducted a prospective study with 39 patients (63 limbs) with primary lower limbs varicose veins. Preoperatively, all patients were subjected to clinical evaluation, duplex ultrassound, air plethysmography (APG), and CIVIQ questionnaire o

8. Solid-phase immunosorbent technique for rapid detection of Rift Valley fever virus immunoglobulin M by hemagglutination inhibition.
A solid-phase immunosorbent technique (SPIT) was adapted to detect Rift Valley fever (RVF) virus-specific immunoglobulin M (IgM) in serum samples from humans vaccinated with Formalin-inactivated RVF vaccine. Microdilution plates coated with goat anti-human IgM were successively incubated with serum samples from human vaccinees, RVF virus hemagglutinating ant

9. Rift Valley fever ocular manifestations: observations during the 1977 epidemic in Egypt.
Ocular manifestations resulting from Rift Valley fever (RVF) virus infection were studied during an extensive RVF epidemic in Egypt during 1977. Colour photography and fluorescein angiography of 7 serologically diagnosed patients showed the commonest manifestations to be macular, paramacular, and/or extramacular retinal lesions, often occurring bilaterally.

10. Identification and characterization of a novel enhancer for the rat neu promoter.
We used chloramphenicol acetyltransferase (CAT) assays to identify and characterize cis-acting elements responsible for rat neu promoter function. Deletion of a region of the neu promoter (-504 to -312) resulted in a marked decrease in CAT activity, indicating that this promoter region corresponds to a positive cis-acting element. Using band shift assays and

11. Use of Reverse Transcriptase PCR in Early Diagnosis of Rift Valley Fever
Reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR) for diagnosis of Rift Valley fever (RVF) was evaluated by using 293 human and animal sera sampled during an RVF outbreak in Mauritania in 1998. Results of the RT-PCR diagnostic method were compared with those of virus isolation (VI) and detection of immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies. Our results showed that RT-PCR is a spec

12. Concentration of Rift Valley Fever and Chikungunya Viruses by Precipitation
Simple and efficient methods for concentrating Rift Valley fever (RVF) virus and chikungunya (CHIK) virus are described. Ammonium sulfate, potassium sulfate, or alcohol was used as a precipitating agent and the precipitate was resuspended to volumes suitable for further processing and purification. The methods permitted concentration of live RVF virus and CH
