1. Optimal swim speeds by respirometer: an analysis of three neotropical species

2. Compatibilization and degradation study of Polypropylene/Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PP/PHB) blends. / Estudo da compatibilização e da degradação de blendas polipropileno/poli (3-hidroxibutirato) (PP/PHB).
In this work Polypropylene/Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PP/PHB) blend was studied. In particular the compatibilization and the influence of a previous photodegradation on the biodegradation of the blend were investigated. In order to understand the photodegradation of the blends it was also necessary to study the photodegradation of PHB. The compositions of the

3. Estudo comparativo da aplicaÃÃo de vinhaÃa tratada e in natura em solos sob cultivo de cana-de-aÃÃcar
Brazil is the world leader in sugarcane plantation. Its economical exploration generates residues, standing out the vinasse. Due to the problems of ecological and social order caused by the vinasse, the most plausible solution for its disposition is the application to the soil as fertilizer. However, that application requests studies to guide the management

4. Evaluation of the Total Carbonaceous Biochemical Oxygen Demand Method, Using a Compensated Recording Respirometer
The total carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand test is described, and experimental data demonstrating its stoichiometry, precision, and accuracy are presented. The test is more reproducible and faster than the current 5-day biochemical oxygen demand test procedure, and if a respirometer is used, the effects of toxic chemicals, pH changes, and nutrient imba

5. A New Method for Calibrating the Kofranyi-Michaelis Respirometer
A method is described of calibrating the Kofranyi-Michaelis (KM) respirometer under normal laboratory conditions using expired air from a subject exercising in the steady state.

8. Microbial metabolic activity in soil as measured by dehydrogenase determinations.
The dehydrogenase technique for measuring the metabolic activity of microorganisms in soil was modified to use a 6-h, 37 degrees C incubation with either glucose of yeast extract as the electron-donating substrate. The rate of formazan production remained constant during this time interval, and cellular multiplication apparently did not occur. The technique

9. Automatically Recording Respirometer
Recently, several different types of devices have been developed which automatically record oxygen consumption of biological cultures. This article describes one of these devices and discusses its application.

10. Ester Production by Pseudomonas fragi IV. Demonstration of Esterase Activity 1
Assay of the esterase activity of sonically treated cell-free extracts, whole cell suspensions, and supernatant fluid of Pseudomonas fragi cultures with a differential respirometer revealed that the esterases were intracellular. Polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis demonstrated six bands of esterase activity, which revealed substrate specificity differences. B

11. Doppler echocardiographic evaluation of pulmonary blood flow after the Fontan operation: the role of the lungs.
OBJECTIVE--To document whether the act of respiration influences pulmonary blood flow in patients after the Fontan operation. DESIGN--Prospective study in which patients acted as their own controls. SETTING--Supraregional paediatric cardiology centre. PATIENTS--Sixteen patients who had undergone atriopulmonary anastomosis (Fontan operation) for the treatment

12. Microrespirometer chamber for determinations of viability in cell and organ cultures.
The effects of chemical, physical, and infectious cytotoxic agents on primary and cultured cells were evaluated by measurements of oxygen uptake for various time periods. A newly developed respirometer used a Clark oxygen electrode in a 1.0-ml chamber, with provisions for constant mixing and for temperature control of both the sample and electrode chambers.
