1. Interaction between Methylobacterium extorquens and sugarcane (Saccharum sp.) / Interação entre Methylobacterium extorquens e cana-de-açúcar (Saccharum sp.)
Plants produce a variety of defense enzymes when colonized that can impair the microorganismsestablishment. This adverse condition in the host plant lead to a response from the microorganism, which is associated with the synthesis of a set of proteins and other molecules that affect the interaction with the host and shift the bacterial community associated.

2. Ocorrência de Bipolaris maydis causando mancha foliar em Paspalum atratum cv. Pojuca no Brasil
Bipolaris maydis was consistently isolated from infected Paspalum atratum cv. Pojuca plants showing leaf spot symptoms in the Cerrado of Brazil, in 2002. Pathogenicity tests under greenhouse conditions and subsequent reisolations of B. maydis from artificially inoculated Pojuca seedlings confirmed the hypothesis that this fungus was the causal agent of the d

3. Fusion of protoplasts of Bacillus megaterium.
Protoplasts of two doubly auxotrophis strains of Bacillus megaterium were fused by nascent calcium phosphate or by polyethylene glycol treatment, and then allowed to revert to bacillary form on selection media. The colonies formed were analyzed and found to be mixed populations of individual bacteria apparently containing parental, recombinant, and segregati

4. Comparison of guinea pig embryo cells, rabbit kidney cells, and human embryonic lung fibroblast cell strains for isolation of herpes simplex virus.
With the recognition of the importance and the prevalence of herpes simplex virus infections and the availability of effective chemotherapy, there has come a demand for rapid, sensitive, and accurate diagnosis. Virus isolation in cell culture remains the most widely employed diagnostic method, and the cell cultures used vary greatly from laboratory to labora

5. Screening of Probiotic Activities of Forty-Seven Strains of Lactobacillus spp. by In Vitro Techniques and Evaluation of the Colonization Ability of Five Selected Strains in Humans
The probiotic potential of 47 selected strains of Lactobacillus spp. was investigated. The strains were examined for resistance to pH 2.5 and 0.3% oxgall, adhesion to Caco-2 cells, and antimicrobial activities against enteric pathogenic bacteria in model systems. From the results obtained in vitro, five strains, Lactobacillus rhamnosus 19070-2, L. reuteri DS
