1. Reserve metabolism of stored and germinated Araucaria angustifolia seeds
ABSTRACT. Germination metabolism of recalcitrant seeds of Araucaria angustifolia is activated in storage, which complicates the seeds conservation and utilization. This study aimed to identify the changes in the reserve metabolites of A. angustifolia seeds throughout storage in order to understand the processes of hydrolysis caused by germination metabolism.

2. Respiratory Rates of Inga Vera Willd. Subsp. Affinis (DC.) T. D. Penn. Seeds
ABSTRACT The deterioration process of recalcitrant seeds is not fully known, mainly regarding the relation between fungi activity and respiration. Inga vera seeds are characterized by their high degree of sensitivity to desiccation and for only maintaining viability for a few weeks. The objective of this study was to identify the fungus action on respiratory

3. Storage Potential of Local Brazilian Pine Seed Varieties
ABSTRACT Brazilian pine seeds (Araucaria angustifolia) are recalcitrant, and there are no studies evaluating the longevity of their different varieties. Our objective was to evaluate the capacity of different varieties of Brazilian pine seeds to maintain their physiological quality during storage. Seeds of the varieties: sancti josephi (I), angustifolia (II)

4. Degradation of textile dyes by cyanobacteria
Abstract Dyes are recalcitrant compounds that resist conventional biological treatments. The degradation of three textile dyes (Indigo, RBBR and Sulphur Black), and the dye-containing liquid effluent and solid waste from the Municipal Treatment Station, Americana, São Paulo, Brazil, by the cyanobacteria Anabaena flos-aquae UTCC64, Phormidium autumnale UTEX1

5. Establishment of post-harvest early-developmental categories for viability maintenance of Araucaria angustifolia seeds
Araucaria angustifolia seeds are recalcitrant, and their metabolism remains high during storage. This research aimed to describe the initiation of germination in A. angustifolia seeds during storage in order to standardize the assessment of physiological quality and to promote seed conservation. Seeds were collected from two populations and stored for 270 da

6. Cloning and expression of embryogenesis-regulating genes in Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Kuntze (Brazilian Pine)
Angiosperm and gymnosperm plants evolved from a common ancestor about 300 million years ago. Apart from morphological and structural differences in embryogenesis and seed origin, a set of embryogenesis-regulating genes and the molecular mechanisms involved in embryo development seem to have been conserved alike in both taxa. Few studies have covered molecula

7. Mixed reproduction systems in Opuntia monacantha (Cactaceae) in Southern Brazil
The Cactaceae have morphological and physiological adaptations associated with their life histories that are reflected in different modes of reproduction and multiplication. The reproductive phenology, preferential reproductive mode, and the sexual and asexual multiplication of Opuntia monacantha were investigated between 2003 and 2006 in two restinga (sandy

9. Physiological, biochemical aspects and comparative proteomic during maturation, germination and seedling conversion of Ocotea catharinensis Mez. (Lauraceae). / Aspectos fisiológicos, bioquímicos e análise proteômica comparativa durante a maturação, germinação e conversão em plantas de embriões de Ocotea catharinensis Mez. (Lauraceae).
The great similarity among the events of zygotic and somatic embryogenesis allows the establishment of parameters for accompaniment of these processes. In the present work it was studied the somatic embryogenesis in Ocotea catharinensis, in the maturation and germination phases, and the zygotic embryogenesis. The biochemical parameters and differential expre

10. Quantificação de aminoácidos, poliaminas, AIA e ABA e marcadores protéicos na germinação de sementes de Ocotea odorifera Vell. (Lauraceae) / Quantification of amino acids, polyamines, IAA, ABA and protein markers on the germination of Ocotea odorifera Vell. (Lauraceae) seeds
Dentre as técni

11. Morphogenesis in vitro, phytochemical analysis and anatomical characterization of neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) / Morfogênese in vitro, análise fitoquímica e caracterização anatômica de nim (Azadirachta indica A. Juss)
The Azadirachta indica A. Juss species, popularly known as neem, belongs to the Meliaceae family, which has great potential for azadirachtin (AZA) production; however, neem has recalcitrant seeds, cross-pollination and variable content of AZA. Four experiments were conducted in order to understand the in vitro growth limiting factors of these plants and chan

The establishment of orchards in, in its wholeness, performed through rootstocks, which are coming from lots of seeds with an irregular germinative performance, due to the non-uniformity of natural maturation of fruits. Nevertheless, germination, both slow and non-uniform, of the seeds compromises the final stand and increases the time necessary for the esta
