1. Preparation of Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-b-ε-caprolactone) by Reactive Extrusion and Production of Electrospun Fibrous Mats
Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) has been proposed to be a potential candidate to be used as biomaterial. However, its poor processability, high brittleness and rigidity have limited its applicability. Transesterification reactions with poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL), one of the most promising biomedical materials, emerge as an attractive alternative to improve it

2. Grafting polypropylene over hollow glass microspheres by reactive extrusion
Abstract Hollow glass microspheres HGM are light, round, hollow, hydrophilic microspheres used to produce polyolefin composites with reduced density. To maintain mechanical strength, it is necessary to improve the adhesion between the polymer matrix and the microspheres, which is done by a compatibilizer. For polypropylene composites a maleic anhydride graft

3. Crosslinking starch/oat hull mixtures for use in composites with PLA
Abstract Modification of composite components has been proposed as a tool to improve their functional properties. The present work studied crosslinking of a starch/oat hull mixture by reactive extrusion with sodium trimetaphosphate (STMP), for application in composites with polylactic acid (PLA). The treated mixture was characterized regarding degree of subs

5. Hydrogen sulfide: a new endogenous player in an old mechanism of plant tolerance to high salinity
ABSTRACT High salinity affects plants due to stimulation of osmotic stress. Cell signaling triggered by nitric oxide (NO) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) activates a cascade of biochemical events that culminate in plant tolerance to abiotic and biotic stresses. For instance, the NO/H2S-stimulated biochemical events that occur in plants during response to high sal

6. Oat fibers modification by reactive extrusion with alkaline hydrogen peroxide
Abstract The modification of lignocellulosic fibers can enhance their interaction with other materials and alkaline hydrogen peroxide (AHP) is a reagent widely used to promote such modification. This work aimed to modify oat hulls fibers by reactive extrusion using AHP (7 g 100 g-1 of hulls). The modified oat hulls displayed performances comparable to those

7. Citronellal-induced disruption of membrane homeostasis in Candida albicans and attenuation of its virulence attributes
Abstract: INTRODUCTION There is an increasing burden of multidrug resistance. As a result, deciphering the mechanisms of action of natural compounds with antifungal activity has gained considerable prominence. We aimed to elucidate the probable mechanism of action of citronellal, a monoterpenoid found in the essential oil extracted from Cymbopogon plants,

8. Water Susceptibility and Mechanical Properties of Thermoplastic Starch–Pectin Blends Reactively Extruded with Edible Citric Acid
Pectin and starch are edible, non-toxic, biodegradable and obtained from renewable sources. Also, have the benefit to be easily cross-linked producing hydrogels. Reactive extrusion with edible citric acid and cross linking interactions was evaluated on extruded thermoplastic in natura and cationic starch-pectin blends. Materials water susceptibility and mech

9. The effect of extrusion conditions and the use of a compatibilizer in the crystallization of PBT/ABS blends
Poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT)/ acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) terpolymer blends were prepared in a twin screw extruder and the use of methyl methacrylate-glycidyl methacrylate-ethyl acrylate (MGE) terpolymer as compatibilization additive was evaluated. The effect of different screw profiles and mixing conditions were evaluated on the crystallizat

10. Study of the compatibilizer effect in the properties of starch/polyester blends
The mechanical, viscoelastic and structural properties of starch/ poly (butylene adipate co-terephthalate) (PBAT) blown films produced by reactive extrusion were evaluated using citric acid (CA) and maleic anhydride (MA) as compatibilizers. Scanning electron microscopy images showed more homogeneous structure when CA and MA were included in the formulation.

11. Solid state polymerization: its action on thermal and rheological properties of PET/PC reactive blends
The solid state polymerization (SSP) of PET/PC reactive extrusion blends - with and without cobalt catalyst - at different polymer ratios was studied. Thermal and rheological evaluations were performed. DSC results showed changes in the PET's Tg, Tch, Tm and Xc.. The melt flow rate (MFR) decreased for PET and the blends. The intrinsic viscosity increased. Th

12. Starch/polyester films: simultaneous optimisation of the properties for the production of biodegradable plastic bags
Blends of starch/polyester have been of great interest in the development of biodegradable packaging. A method based on multiple responses optimisation (Desirability) was used to evaluate the properties of tensile strength, perforation force, elongation and seal strength of cassava starch/poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) blown films produced vi
