1. Effects of Composition and Thermal Treatment of Cu-Al-Zn Alloys with Low Content of Al on their Shape-memory Properties
Two Cu-Zn-Al alloys with variable content of Zn (25 and 30 wt%) and constant Al content (4 wt%) prepared by induction melting of pure metals and hot rolled into strips of 0.5 mm thickness were thermally processed by using three different heat treatments: direct quenching, step-quenching and up-quenching with boiling water and room temperature water as the qu

2. Effect of heat treatment on hardness and wear behavior of weld deposited Co-Cr-Mo alloy
Metallic materials are generally characterized by the evaluation of hardness and wear resistance of the material at the specified condition. The characterization is necessary for understanding the behavior of the metals, especially alloys, at different conditions. To study the effect of heat treatment on weld deposited Co-Cr-Mo alloy, arc welding process has

3. Structural and ecophysiological alterations of the water hyacinth [Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms] due to anthropogenic stress in Brazilian rivers
In this work, the structural and ecophysiological alterations (chlorophyll a fluorescence and photosynthetic pigments), and quantification of Cr, Pb and Zn in the leaf limb, petiole and younger and older roots of water hyacinth from the lower, medium and upper Paraíba do Sul river (PSR) and Imbé river were evaluated. The plants from the medium and upper PS

4. Instrumented Charpy : analysis of the instrumentation and the effect of different metallurgical conditions of an ultra-high strength steel on the dynamic fracture toughness / Charpy instrumentado : analise da instrumentação e da influencia de condições metalurgicas de um aço de ultra-alta resistencia mecanica na tenacidade a fratura dinamica
The classical Charpy test is used since 1900 and it is possible to determine from it the global energy for deformation and fracturing the specimen and this energy is named toughness which is important for selection steels considering ductile-brittle transition temperature. The Instrumented Charpy test is very important because it produces more material param

5. Obtaining and microstructualand mechanical characterization of Ti-Nb-Sn alloys applied as biomaterial / Obtenção, caracterização microestrutural e mecanica de ligas Ti-Nb-Sn aplicadas em implantes ortopedicos
This work deals with preparation, processing and microstructural and mechanical characterization of ß type Ti-Nb-Sn alloys aiming the manufacturing of orthopedic devices for implants. Ti samples containing Nb at levels of 25, 30 and 35 wt % and Sn at levels of 2, 4 and 8 wt % were prepared by arc melting, homogenized at 1000ºC/8 h and plastically deformed

6. Estudos estruturais de histatina-5 e seu análogo, TOAC0-histatina-5: interação com metais e sistemas biomiméticos / Structural studies of Histatin-5 and its analogue, TOAC0-Histatin-5: interaction with metals and biomimetic systems
The mechanism of action of histatin-5 (Hst-5), an antifungal antimicrobial peptide from human saliva is not completely clarified. Circular dichroism (CD), fluorescence, and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) were used to examine the conformational behavior of Hst-5 and its analogue containing the paramagnetic amino acid TOAC at the N-terminus (TOAC0-Hst-5

7. Stability and metastability of phases in Ti-Nb alloys / Estabilidade e metaestabilidade de fases em ligas Ti-Nb

8. Lipid hydroperoxides as a biological source of singlet oxygen: studies using isotopic labelling, mass spectrometry and luminescence / Hidroperóxidos de lipídios como fonte biológica de oxigênio singlete: estudos com marcação isotópica, espectrometria de massas e luminescência
Evidences point to the involvement of lipid peroxidation in several diseases. Lipid hydroperoxides (LOOH) are the primary products of lipid peroxidation and their decomposition generates more reactive and toxic compounds, such as peroxyl radicals. These radicals play an important role in the propagation of lipid peroxidation and may also generate singlet mol

9. Estabilidade de fases em ligas Mo-B-Si ricas em molibdenio
In recent investigations it has been proposed that equilibrium microstructures constituted by a refractory metal and an intermetallicphase are the best choice for high temperature structural applications at temperatures higher than 1400°C. Based on the information available in the literature it has been identified the existence of a Mo (solid solution) + in

10. Cytosolic free calcium and cell spreading decrease in fibroblasts from aged and Alzheimer donors.
Aging and Alzheimer disease lead to alterations in calcium homeostasis. The concentration of cytosolic free calcium in cultured skin fibroblasts during aging and Alzheimer disease was determined with the calcium-sensitive fluorescent dyes quin-2 and fura-2. The Alzheimer donors showed a decline of 70% when compared to age-matched controls (P less than 0.001)
